Rodeo’s and Pumpkins

Here is a little known fact for you – I am not a big horse fan (due to allergies) but I love Rodeo’s! Heidi and I went to many a rodeo event together in our youth. Sadly, I married someone who is not real impressed with them and I no longer have a date. That is UNTIL I had the brainy idea to invite my little cowboy son Tanner! He, unlike his daddy, LOVES rodeo’s! I took him to his first rodeo last Friday night and it was definitely a hit with Tanner! His Aunt Brooke and Aunt Jodi were both riding in the big PRCA rodeo at the Glendale arena as part of the opening and closing drill team. Brooke, Jodi, and Aimee are all former AZ Rodeo Queens and once in awhile they take time for some events. Maybe Tanner will be my future date for rodeo events :).

We also went to Young’s Farm (aka The Pumpkin Patch) this weekend. Both my cowboys were adorable and had a great time. Grandma Cheri even managed to teach Ty to say “Pumpkin”. He say’s “pun – pin”.

Here are some fun pictures from the weekend:

Me and my boys. Having a rowdy time aren’t we? Why oh why can’t I ever get cooperation for these pictures?

  1. LOVE the pictures! Well done! And your sisters-in-love do look beautiful (duh!) too.

Oddly enough we don’t go to so many rodeos anymore. Animal lover that we are, we think TOO hard about the poor animals getting roped, twisted, bucked on… are we pitiful or what? All this and Jas doesn’t mind hunting though.. oh, but he is a sensitive hunter that won’t kill what won’t be eaten. Have to say that. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’d probably still go to a rodeo with my sis though. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Jim doesn’t like rodeo? Oh my! Maybe you should get him one of the rodeo video games…that might spark an interest! It looks like Tanner had a blast…I don’t think you’ll have trouble getting him to go back w/ you. Be sure and let me know when you figure out how to get the boys to cooperate for a picture. I’ve got to take our Christmas card photo of the boys this weekend…I’ve been working on the prop and taking my time because I dread the actual event so much!

  3. Jennifer, You might still have to go with the seperate pictures idea Doni had then edit them in together. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyone you know willing to help get their attention just behind your camera – you know, with candy, a favorite toy, doing cartwheels – anything! ๐Ÿ™‚ Is there a favorite funny movie you can set up behind you to get them laughing? oh dear…. good luck!

  4. Doni, cute photos. As usual. ๐Ÿ™‚

The first photo of you & the boys, where you are lacking cooperation, (you should see the ones I took of all three of ours at a pumpkin patch….sheesh! ๐Ÿ™‚ ), Tanner holding on to the back tip of his hat is incredible!!!!!! What a shot! Love your photos! A week or so ago I shot Cade with his cowboy hat on & turned it black & white. Awesome! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Also, I might add, I loveeeeee rodeos!!! I think along the lines of Heidi though. My heart breaks for the animals now that I’m “older”. ๐Ÿ™

Anywho, we just bought a new house & now that I’ve seen your photos, I want to fill it with saddles & all! How crazy is that?!?! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Jennifer – maybe you could take one of those kid leashes and tie them to the front yard tree and then edit the leash out :). Did I say that LOL?

Melissa – send the picture of Cade to me – would love to see it!

Heidi – you should have seen the calf roping – good howdy that was rough business!

  7. I actually used our harness with Cason again last weekend. We attended a huge, outdoor event & I didn’t want him “tied down” to the stroller. I got stared at again (whoopie), but I actually had one lady stop & chat with me about “what a great idea! I need one of those!”. I appreciated her smile & nice comments! ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Doni, I love the pumkin pictures. There something about the fall air and pumkins that make for the cutest pictures ๐Ÿ™‚ I have yet to get our kids there this year and am hoping to go over the weekend. I never did comment on the leash thing but this year at our county fair instead of dealing with the boys getting in and out of the stoller I purchased two harnesses with a “leash” and hooked them up. Well they worked great except when one would go one way the the other another way. We have a few tangle ups! LOL Boy did I get some looks. Oh well they went home with me safe and sound.

  9. We are going to be outside w/ a board fence prop (made from an old barn) and the new baby colts in the background. I will probably use the last saddle Graham won if he hasn’t gotten it too dirty and have them sitting on haybales and standing. As long as there’s no snot (can’t believe I said that) or blood showing in the picture, we’ll be ok! I think I’m doing black & white and I’ve already started designing the card. I just have to order the paper and ribbon. I’m sure they won’t all be looking the same way or smiling at the same time…but who expects to see a picture like that of 4 boys?! I may take some rope, just in case, and tie them to the fence if I have to! LoL!
