She was wimpering but could barely open her eyes.?? My heart about jumped out of my chest and when I got her out of bed she was burning up.?? The ear thermomer said 103 in both ears and I knew that in actuality, her fever was higher.?? I immediately gave her more motrin and ??took her to the bathroom and started filling the tub with cool water.????I set her beside the tub for a moment while I was getting stuff ready and she just closed her eyes and started falling over.?? I put her in the bath and she was so limp she was scaring me to death.?? Getting very stressed at that point, I call Jim and ask him to come right home so I can get her to the ER.?? Aunt Beck and Sweetie were in the area so they met Jim at the house so that they could help me in the car with Tori and Jim could stay with the boys (all three of them are also sick at this point).

While waiting for Jim, she was retracting and making moaning sounds with every breath.?? Then she would take these long pauses and well…I was transporting back five years and you know that story – needless to say I was coming unglued.?? She went beyond lethargia – it felt like she was approaching unconsciousness at that point.?? The scary thing was it happened so fast.?? I put her to bed a sick baby but not THAT sick.???? When we got to the ER I kept telling Aunt Beck and Mom that “something was just not right”.???? When the guy at the front desk did a quick eval, he started moving her back immediately.???? Her sats were at 91.?? I had tears rolling down my face at that point.?? I knew a 91 was going to require oxygen and post Ty…I figure you can imagine all the memories that brought back.

So, FIVE IV attempts, a cathedar, a lung x-ray using the midevil torture tube, 2 deep suctionings, and several rectal temps later the verdict was in.?? RSV positive with a white blood count indicating infection – pneumonia suspected.?? Her temp was at 103.6 one hour after the motrin and the bath.?? Not good.?? She looked T E R R I B L E.?? At that point, the let us know she needed to be admitted but no beds available anywhere.?? We finally got a room at another hospital and were moved out of ER and arrived at the hospital at 10:00 Friday night.????

Friday night we didn’t get much sleep due to being in a hospital.?? She slept a good portion of the day but was up and alert at periods too.?? She is now off oxygen now and her fever is staying between 99 and 100 with both regular dosages of Tylenol and Motrin.?? The culture is still out on the pneumonia.?? She doesn’t sound that terrible though so if she has it, I suspect the beginning stage.?? They have her on antibiotics to knock out whatever the infection turns out to be.?? Antibiotics do nothing for RSV. We tried an albuterol treatment (I hate that stuff – give me zopanex!) but that isn’t the usual course for RSV either.?? Mostly treating symptoms and suctioning.?? When I was leaving the ER I heard the ER nurse tell the transfer EMT that she had just suctioned Tori to keep her from “suffocating”.?? Terrifying to hear it put that way but little ones (and the elderly) just can’t clear all the drainage and mucas that RSV creates so if they get a bad case of it, they need help.??

I was warned that I could be in the hospital for 7 days and that since it appears Tori is on day 3, things may get worse before they get better.?? Apparently day 6 is often a doozy.?? However, it is possible that Tori had RSV before we actually noticed the fever Wed night so maybe she is further in to it than we think.?? Hoping so.?? I

***Good grief.?? While I am typing this I heard a noise and looked over.?? She was standing in her crib reaching over pushing buttons on the IV pump.?? Nice.?? When I checked the pump, it occured to me that another problem was developing.?? The nurses left her bed inclined and my little smarty was climbing up the high end so the rail would be shorter.?? Holy cow.?? Thank the Lord I paid attention.?? Okay now she is removing her pulse ox.?? I’ll have to come back to this tomorrow.

Picking up where I left off in the last post… So I go into the room to check on her and she is laying in her crib covered and I mean COVERED in vomit.??
