For Crying Out Loud…

How difficult could it really be to get a “good” picture of a 7, 4, and 10 month old??? I mean really!?? I would tell you that I am posting only out-takes today but out-takes are pretty much all I got.?? The photographer in me is disgruntled but the mama is delighted.?? :)?? On early glances, I was sighing and complaining, and ranting, calling kids in to ask them if “THIS” looked like their real smiles (and they found these highly amusing to by the way)?? After the third attempt at dealing with their shanninigans I gave up.??

At 10:30 PM I am smiling in spite of my day.?? I will laugh for years over these pictures and remember well how impossible it seemed to get this trio to cooperate.?? Liza warned me that shooting your own kids (and I mean that as a photographer hee hee), is more difficult.?? I wanted to hang my hat on this business this week if this photo shoot were indication of my ability to capture three young children.?? On the other hand, maybe we should chalk this up as a wild success.?? I did capture my monkeys exactly as they appear in the wild of our front room??- I just couldn’t keep them in the barrel.?? (Note to Liza:?? I tried tried containment and other suggestions you??made but Tori was having NONE of it – not any of it.?? Grrrrr.?? If I would have perched Tori atop a desk like you did Eli, we would have been in the ER with Tanner claiming all the while that there was just nothing he could do about it LOL).

The picture above is my favorite out take.?? Tanner – giving me his angelic smile.?? At 7, he has been doing this “professionally” for quite some time.?? Ty is giving me the “is this it??? I forgot my smile again” look.?? Tori just wants out of there.?? Pretty good capture of a moment in time.

If you look close, you will notice that the “gidget” (girl midget hee hee) is getting away.?? (I LOVE that movie).

I was trying what I hoped would be a more creative composition but Tori kept leaving the set.?? I finally told Tanner to hold her arms.?? You can see what she thought of that idea.?? Tanner laughs when he is nervous and he knew he was fighting a losing battle.?? Don’t mess with a??gidget who is determination personified.?? Just ask Dusty how well that works hee hee (props to ya Michelle).

We have a biter on our hands.?? Truth be told, I have never actually seen this expression on her face but I believe that is only because she typically sports it right before moving in for the kill.?? She about drew blood on my arm this week.?? As you can see, she now means business and someone is about to get attacked with her only means of defense left – her six teeth.?? And how lucky that I captured a shot displaying the entire top row.?? Few have actually seen all of them though some have felt them and I wouldn’t recommend that.

I would call this the Monsters Inc picture but she is not playing the role of Boo this time:)

So I gotta know…what’s your vote????? ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. I love these pictures! #3 is my favorite at first look I thought “this one is great!”…still think that, but after reading about it I can see what you mean about bitter going in for the kill…..my first thought saw it as a laughing/giggling fun smile…after reading what you wrote I see the I am going to bite look! ๐Ÿ™‚ LOL! While you may not have the perfect shot, you have real moments captured beautifully! I hope you and your family have a Very Merry Christmas!

  2. Doni, the look on Ty’s face in picture one is priceless……one that you will see many times I am sure….with two boys in the house…LOL LOVE IT. Cracking up! That is exactly what Ryan does to me.

  3. I really find it hard to pick when you ask which one’s we like best. I love them ALL!! I love how your pics show the real side of the kids. It’s normal, it’s real and beautiful ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. i thought she was giggling loudly in the last one too! trickster. ๐Ÿ™‚ when i look back over all of these pictures i think about the true MAMA MEMORIES and then i think they are allllll perfect. ๐Ÿ™‚ they are beautiful. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. These truely are making me laugh out loud..and I can’t stop. Gidget?? hahaha ๐Ÿ™‚ There is something in each picture that makes me love that particular one. Ty’s face in #1 is hands down the funniest-‘forgetting his smile’, ROFL! Not to mention Tori trying to squeeze herself out of tanners arms and loving it..too funny! #2 picture,Tori’s face is precious-she’s thinking her gadget arm is pretty cool. #3 is oh so cute cute cute. #4 is hilarious and probably my favorite.

  6. I am voting for the last two, so real. I am sorry for your frustrations, but wait…..is this the same friend of mine who not only laughed but posted my own six in a certan Christmas picture a few years back???? Hmmmm, looks like you are half way there. LOL

  7. For “real” shots I think the last shot is great and I love the first one if you cut Ty out. ๐Ÿ™‚ Can I say that? I think you are right about enjoying them all later though. I love to go back through pictures. I will see some and remember disliking them so much at the time, but now they are precious.

  8. I showed a girl at work and she told me it looks like a Gap ad! Want to come take pictures of the blizzard we are having? ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. I love them! They will absolutely make you smile for years to come. They made me smile tonight. Big. ๐Ÿ™‚ I like them all for different reasons. I like the first one especially because they are totally doing the pose that you asked them to do, sititng together and holding onto each other. But they are being 100% themselves at the same time. As a series, they tell a great story about your wonderful children, and isn’t that what it’s all about really? As much as we want the money shot of everybody looking and smiling (I’m guilty of this one too), I think the personality that comes across in images like these is really something to capture and remember. Your post says it all. Plus, I am giggling over here because they are now clearly full-fledged members of the photographer’s children club. There should really be a support group for them, poor things. My kids would be active members.

PS – love the color. Gap ad, indeed ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Doni,

How can you possibly ask us to choose a favorite? Every one of them is absolutely precious and makes you want to hug and kiss on them! This is the part of photography that just kills me. Every time I went in to K-Mart, or Sears and they would let me “choose” one pose knowing that they were just going to tear up and throw away the rest of the pictures of my precious children just got my heart. I love them all and each for their unique “story.” That’s what you captured – each of their little quirks and grins and “real-ness” (Is that even a word!!!!) I love them. I love their little matching outfits and all the moments you caught. You did good!!!!

    Lovin’ you as always,

    Aunt Beck

  11. They are all totally precious! I love how each one captures their personalities. If I had to pick a favorite it would be #3…Tanners face is pricelss…
