Where the Wild Things Are

If the colors look “off” on these pictures – it’s the way I saved them and I don’t feel like fixing them for my blog so you’ll have to deal with it today but isn’t he a handsome little happy man?

I REALLY wish I had some pictures for today’s story.?? You’ll just have to imagine it.

A couple of weeks ago my mom and I were out shopping and I returned her home at about 4:00 PM.?? Instead of getting out with the kids (it was soooo hot), I just dropped off her off and drove home.?? She called me when I got in the door and told me she was so glad that the kids and I didn’t come in because there was a HUGE diamondback rattler baking in the sun on her porch right outside the door!?? Ty would likely have encountered it as he would have been in a mad dash to get in the house and see Papa first.?? I always have heard that you don’t have to worry about rattlesnakes in AZ during the summer.?? WRONG!?? And this one was out during the HOTTEST time of the day.

Last week I drove over to their house at about 6:00 PM.?? This time of year, it is no where near sun down at 6:00.?? It was just Tori and I.?? When I pulled up in the driveway I was wishing I had my camera.?? I called Dad on his cell phone and told him that I was NOT going to get out of my car until he came out and removed the FIVE javelina from his backyard and porch!?? FIVE!!!!?? In the full light of day!?? What is going on over there??? The cat and the dog were just sittin’ there doing nothing too.?? Dad shot one of the javelina’s twice with blunt arrows before it even considered moving.?? I guess he chases them off the lawn everyday but it was the first time I almost had a close encounter during DAYLIGHT!?? Goodness!

David makes this expression.?? ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. You would think that we would have some kind of “raid” for these snakes. Scary stuff. I am so happy you decided to keep the kids in the direction of home. Reading this I can just see Ty running to the door. As for your phone call to your dad…….don’t blame you, good choice. As for his actions…….figures. LOL
Zane is so cute and so BIG already. Wow, you can tell the apple does not fall far from the tree. I can see his daddy’s personality all over his face, at least the fun spirited one

  2. he looks so much like David! What a cute kiddo!

Diamondbacks and javelinas OH MY! OH the fun and joys of the AZ dessert. Throw in a couple of Black widows, scorpions and a rattlesnake and you’ll have a full set. ๐Ÿ™‚ When I worked at the Boulders later afternoon/evening was a common time to see the Javelinas – it’s dinner time they’re hungry.

  3. Actually I do have pictures of both the snake and the pigs. Obviously I never hurt the pigs or they wouldn’t keep coming back. As for the snake, I hated to do him in, he showed no signs of actually wanting to hurt anyone. He just wanted to stay in the shade of the porch. I think the only reason mom saw him was he was talking with the cat at the time. The cat was politely listening but didn’t seem to be interested. I didn’t hear it all but I think it had something to do with a time share on the porch, that or sharing the mice that raid the dog food. Sadly, they never finished their conversation. I do not know why but there are more quail, lizzards, woodpeckers, squirrles and bugs SINCE I brout home 6 cats to take care of them! Apparently cats find it easier to catch the dog food!

  4. This is too funny! I just posted a blog called where the wild things grow… I pormise I didn’t copy you:) Zane is too cute. I love that kid

  5. i see david in zane too… oh that poor boy is going to have one too many doses of daddy’s orneriness. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ he is adorable. ๐Ÿ™‚ his funny faces are lovable.
