Two Can Play This Game

So last week Jim celebrated his birthday 6 months early. This has gone on for too many years. Time for me to cash in on this deal too. Women, however, don’t really mean it when they say “today is my birthday”. They mean, “today, tomorrow, next week, next month, oh ya…and on the day I was actually born too”. I am going to milk it…trust me.

Here is MY story.

I started this weight loss support group and all the girls are chatting chatting chatting about their exercise routines. I am not exercising nor did I want to hear another word about it:). Nothing works for me. I hate indoor exercise and videos. I don’t have room for exercise equipment. I love to walk but I get up too late right now (Ty sleeps in so I am taking advantage…wont’ last forever) AND it is a hassle to pack up both kids for a long walk every day. Gym membership? Nope. I’d never go. Don’t like to sacrifice family time. Hmmmmm…what could I do? Must be fun or I won’t do it. Must be multi functional. Must be done during hours when Jim isn’t home or I won’t do it. Must be done when kids are awake or I won’t do it because I have way too many hobbies and interests that would compete for my attention while they were sleeping.

I finally found the solution! A trampoline! I love trampoline’s! I have always wanted one. If I had a trampoline, I could jump to my hearts content to loud music in the backyard. It would meet all my requirements. I could take boys outside with me (which they love). I could exercise to music outside (which I love). I would be doing something fun. So how do I get a trampoline? Oh I know. Tell Jim that it would be great for Tanner’s fourth birthday but it is perfect weather now so maybe we should buy it early (good one). Jim is just as compulsive as I am so I was confident this would work.

Aunt Beck has a trampoline. I’ll just go over there with Tanner and test it out and see if we like it. Problem. Tanner wouldn’t jump. Tanner cried. Tanner held onto my leg with a death grip. Tanner wanted off…NOW!

So that won’t work. Can’t ask for a present for Tanner that he HATES. Hmmmmm…what to do? Cash in!!!! Declare my January birthday. So I did.

I now have a big 15 foot trampoline in my backyard and I love it. I have bounced bounced bounced for the last two days and it is great exercise and fun. Tanner say’s I can do “sips” (flips) but I can’t nor will I try.

Tanner is slowly warming up to this and actually jumped today. Mostly though he just enjoys watching mommy jump. How convenient is that? Well actually, he is using it on me. He likes me to be in the backyard with him so when he wants to go outside he say’s “Mommy? Watch you jump?” Yep. I know what THAT is all about. Works for both of us though. Now the question is, will I actually loose more weight this way? I hope so!

I do plan on getting a net but at the moment do not feel a sense of urgency about it. Tanner and I are both the cautious types so it is highely highely unlikely we would experience a problem. Noah however is a different story. I may have to buy the net just for my nephew!:)

  1. Doni – you are my kind of girl! I think the idea is brilliant. It sounds like so much fun. I just joined a gym (yuck!) – if only I lived somewhere where it didn’t rain 3/4 of the time. Jumping in the rain might be fun too. Hmmmm… I hope it works for you!

  2. I am so glad someone finally admitted to hating to work out. It’s terrible, no fun at all! All my friends say how great it is, all the endorphins and what not. The thought of aerobics is terrifying, I don’t want to the be “that” girl that can’t get to the beat. And believe me I would be, no cordination. Jumping sounds fun it has to be better than my pilates DVD! Let me know if it works because mine and my son’s birthday is in April, granted he’s only 10 months but I think I could get my hubby to spring for one!
