Alexander and the….

…terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day! Ever hear this story? It is a classic. Tanner had a day like this last week. Due to his cold, my little buddy was a grump.

I first realized that it was about to be an “Alexander” day when Tanner was angry at Ty for “watching his show”. Apparently, Ty and Tanner were not supposed to watch TV together. Shortly after that, Tanner was angry because he said that Ty “won’t quit looking at me!” Now THAT is a big issue. Imagine it. His one year old brother was staring at him from his swing. Tragic. I stared in disbelief at that accusation and I knew we were really in for it.

At lunch time he wouldn’t eat his chicken dinosaurs because they were too hot. Later in the afternoon he didn’t want his ice cream because it was too cold. He was being unkind to people all day and we had a talk about it. Sometime that evening his happy self started returning. I knew we had taken a turn for the better when he said “Mommy. I got a big smile for all people.” LOL. In my heart, I then knew we were out of the woods:)

*Note: Our solution to this problem was to take the boys for a drive up north. They were both feeling bad and needed to sleep so we figured a long car drive would give them the opportunity to rest (for us too!). It was a beautiful day. We even spent a few minutes in the snow (see pictures in the album). Maybe not the greatest idea for two kids with colds but we only got out for a couple of minutes.

Almost There
I put dinner on our coffee table one night and told all my boys that dinner was ready. (We alternate between the dining table and the coffee table depending on if one of our shows is on LOL). Jim told me that he would “be there in a minute” as he was involved in a project in the other room. Tanner, instead of sitting down next to me, climbed up on the couch, stretched out and folded his arms behind his head. I said “Tanner, what are you doing? Don’t you want to come eat?” His response was soooo male!! He said (without making eye contact) “I almost there mommy!”

Yes…how well I know what “almost there” means to a male. Tanner illustrated this male behavior perfectly. There was no sign that Tanner was almost anywhere except comfortably nestled in the couch watching tv. Sheeeesssh!!!

The Cleaning Panic
This week Tanner walked into Ty’s room (which was recently cleaned of all stuff and clutter) and asked in wide eyed amazement “Where the pacies? Where the blankets?”. I said, “I cleaned it all up. I want this room clean because sometime mommy will move Ty’s crib back in here and Ty will sleep in this room.” Tanner said “No like dis room. Dats not good idea!” LOL. Tanner is such a creature of habit that he does not like the idea of Ty’s crib moving out of daddy and mommy’s room. No worries. I don’t like the idea either and I don’t see it happening anywhere in the near future:).

Tannerisms

All week I have heard “He distapeared” (referencing his brother of course)

I love the way Tanner say’s Book Shelves. He say’s this often as he is constantly tatteling on Ty for getting into them. He calles them “Book Shales”. Say this with a strong southern accent and you’ll get an idea. So funny to hear.

Tanner said FOUR this week! Yeah. He counted “One, Two, Shree, FOUR, Shive”. We are making progress!!!

I heard Tanner looking for me throughout the house this week and giggled when he yelled, “MOMMY! TOO CAN SHINE YOU!” (Mommy I can’t find you!)

And when I tell you little boy that you are so special and I love you so much, you simply say “Yep”.
