Well would you believe my darn (but loveable) husband forgot to tape the show for me tonight?!!! I have Bible Study on Monday nights so I have to watch it late. Aaaaghh!!! Guess I will have to get your perspective and just realize I probably would have disagreed LOL! (So far, no one is voting like me:) I wonder how Joe did tonight? Isn’t there anybody in Phx that taped it? Wish they would post recap clips on the web!
Post away gals!

You need TIVO!!! Sorry I was watching Thomas the Train all night…
Oh NO!!! We were counting on you having taped it. Your mom and I both missed it too!!!!
I watched it ๐
I think Bo, Anwar and David (It hink thats his name) did really well. Actually if you listen to the judges they all did well….even Simon seemed happy with every performance.
I have no idea who will be voted off ๐
ok – here we go! ๐ doni, i do think you will agree with this when someone graciously gives you a tape of the singing: for the most part, all of the guys REALLY stepped up their game and outdid themselves. there were fewer ballods and more impacting rhythms and melodies. overall, a more enjoyable night of performing than last week.
now, i don’t think you’ll agree with some of my particulars but others you will. i’m terrible with names so i’ll do my best to get it right.
last weeks last guy was this weeks first guy – mario i think (sort of a moder-day, unweirded out, version of michael jackson) – this guy is a natural on stage and in his voice – he’s on pitch and happy and genuine. he doesn’t have to even try it seems – will make it far in ai if you base it on that alone. he did a great job – seemless performance.
Jospeh – doni and i will only agree partially here (if i’ve got his name right)- good strong voice and better performance from last week for sure – but simon said he was a caberet singer and i so agreed! i couldn’t put my finger on how to describe him and that was it! i can’t argue he’s talented but something about his style just does NOT work for me… turns me OFF.
Constantine – i was not impressed this week with his screaming rocker style. it was too much for tv and definitely required the full rock band to go with it. tv mixes with vocals really up front – straight feed with no audience mixed in. he needs a rock band to cover his flaws. if you ask me (and i’m so glad you did!) ๐ this week seperated our 2 rockers. i believe constantine is going and bo is staying. (oh, simon said he could go to any bar with a good rock band and find a singer of const. caliber. i’d guess that’s true.)
the audience, by the way, was REALLY into everything last night which was great – unfortunately you can’t hear them much so you lose the mood that they are feeling in the live performance… tv just isn’t the same as live.
that brings us to bo – while we’re talking rockers. he gave a GREAT performance. he is genuine, the real deal, true rocker. good strong voice, good pitch, into what he does – LOVIN’ the stage – seemed like he thought he was in front of a million people – and if he had been he’d have been just as comfortable and excited. judges were happy overall and so was i. stay bo, stay!
Scott – is this the white shaved headed guy? i think so – he is humble and i like his personality. comfortable on stage, smooth voice – good performance – even simon said he looked good and simon was concerned about his appearance previously. not crazy about the song but he did great – i think he should stick around a while longer.
here’s where i start forgetting who is who… i’ll try with descriptions to get it right.
Anwar – is this long braids or short braids guy? i think long braids – if so i think he’s talented enough to stay around another week or so but i’m not crazy about his voice personally. nice smile, good natural performer.
short braids guy – david brown? – a look fans will like and that could keep him around – nice smile kind eyes. jas & i were not impressed with song at first but he really kicked into high gear half way through and did a great job – though not perfect. he’ll get better with time, age & more frequent singing. not my fav but good.
travis – isn’t he the one who sang “all night long” by lionel richie? he was a good performer and natural on stage – but not great vocally tonight. in the audience he would have had the full band sound and been better but i bet when listening back to the tv tape the judges will be less excited. he’s my 2nd pick to be out this week.
anthony – oh yes! this is this years clay and i still think so. jas really likes him, i don’t especially. i can think he has a good voice but not be a fan of it – know what i mean? he gave a good performance and sang well but i don’t see him being the idol – but i don’t necessarily see him being cut this week either.
Nikko – he is definitely a talented singer/performer, but again, not my guy (although i do really like soulful/r&b music – that’s not the issue for me). i also think i’ve heard plenty of singers in churches across the usa that outdo him – he doesn’t seem unique enough to me to be the idol even though he did a fine job last night.
so there you have it – my top 2 from last nigh were bo & mario. my last two were travis & constantine.
Alright…here we go! Heidi, you’d better get you a pen & start taking your notes girl! I finally did & I was cracking up when I caught my hubby making his own comments on my notes! LOL! ๐
My personal opinion is – I think the guys are really good. Really good. Tough competition here. Maybe there are more “good” guys than there are girls? We’ll see tonight. ๐
Mario & Anwar – both sing good with cute, entertaining personalities. Joseph, now isn’t he a sexy little ‘thang? He was good too, & he’s a cutie pie! He’s just got the “look”. ๐
David – well, I think he’s ok, but for some reason I’m just not sold on him. And I’m just not a fan of Travis either. Not sure why, but I’d probably vote him off. Anthony, well, I love his “story” of course, but I’m just not sold on him either. All he sings though are slow songs, I’d like to here some spunk out of him to see what he can do.
Constantine & Bo – man I like them. However, I do think Bo has a better singing voice than Constantine. Bo’s moving quickly to the top of my list. ๐
Nikko, I must admit I think he’s pretty good. However, Scott has won my vote again! At this stage of the game he is still my all time favorite, & I love the innocent “bad boy” look he’s got going on. Love this guy & his voice! ๐
Oh Heidi, heehee…funny Joseph doesn’t do it for you & I think he’s a sexy little guy! ๐ ๐
GAG ME MELISSA!!!!!!! ๐ joseph? no way!!!!! he doesn’t even come close for me! ๐ ha ha! you’re too funny – i bet your hubby DID have comments for your notes on that one! ๐
as of last week i thought he had a nice look and smooth voice – good potential – was looking for more out of him. and although he outshined himself this week over last, there is something about his performance that made me think of (close your eyes doni) some guy approaching a girl in a hotel bar -a girl who clearly has no interest – and not leaving her alone – a guy with cheesy pick up lines that make you roll your eyes and want to puke. ๐ now, i’m not saying he IS that guy – no, i don’t think so at all – i’m sure he’s very nice and yes talented… it’s something about his look, mannerisms, dance moves, maybe the clothes too… just really turns me off.
i too like that scott has a humble sweet countenance and yet that little bit of rough & tumble look/dress/walk. good for him. he’s workin’ things to his advantage.
maybe there are more good guys than girls. at this point i’m not ready to compare the one to the other. i need it narrowed down while they are still seperate in competition before i can go there. we’ll see tonight!
Hahaha Heidi, I’m cracking up now!! You’re supposed to listen to the guys’ singing, not what they might do if you met them in a dark alley….rofl!! ๐ ๐ ๐
oh we are getting a giggle aren’t we? ๐ i don’t think he IS the sleezy bar pick-up guy – just something about his look reminded me of “that” guy and the caberet type style is not my thing at all. i don’t think i’d run into him in a dark alley or that he’d be unkind if anyone did. it’s really the caberet thing more than anything else.
second thought… as to just listening to his voice, not thinking of what sort of guy he makes me think of… i would have to argue you with you there. in this sort of competition, the music industry, and a music career, the type of person people think of when they see you perform IS just as important as the voice they hear. there have been several songs i’ve actually liked when i heard them but when i saw the person perform or speak in an interview my tastes suddenly changed. it’s very hard for me to listen to someone i don’t like watching.
i know that doni will write about the girl performances later but for now i’ll give you an example based on tonights performances – nadia. i was much less impressed with her vocally this week than last though not much impressed last – however, i thought she preformed overall very well last week – look, energy, etc… but i realized this week with more closeups and a different style of music that i don’t like watching her sing. that tipped me over the edge to say i’m ready for her to go.
know what i mean? maybe not by these particular examples but you know what i mean when i say that watching someone and the impression their look, performance style, etc. gives can change whether or not you want to listen to their music or ever attend a concert?
