See Karsyn…

Alright alright…so she isn’t actually born yet but still these pictures are of my little niece! I will post some to the pregnancy portfolio album when I am done but I am still in the process of editing pictures. I wanted to share a few now though because I know family are waiting on these.

Anyone find it ironic that Jodi does not believe herself to be photogenic? I am sure you will disagree. Again, so easy to get these gorgeous shots when my sisters in love all make such beautiful models:). These were taken last Sunday – Jodi is 9 months along in these pictures.

  1. Wow, Doni you take some beautiful pictures. You are right, Jodi is just beautiful ๐Ÿ™‚ I wish I looked half that good during my pregnancy. Next time I am pregnant I am getting on a plane and making you take my picture ๐Ÿ™‚

    Good job!

  2. Doni those pictures are absolutly beautiful. Jodi looks amazing, tell her she is beautiful. I wish I had taken pictures of myself when I was pregnant. When you are pregnant you think you look aweful and never want to see that again. Years later you had wished you did take some. Oh well. Just wanted to say great job Doni. You are an amazing photographer.

  3. Hi Doni,
Your photos as usual are stunning. Jodi is radiant and you really capture that quality.
I have a quick question. The 7th photo down, has that black and white look but with a little color. How do you get that effect? I want to be able to do that. I have the digital rebel and am just starting to work with photoshop. I know my way around the program because I have used it for work(pre mommydom)but I didn’t use it to edit photos so I know nothing in that department. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks, Amy

  4. In case Doni is a bit busy ๐Ÿ™‚

Amy: In photoshop, open your photo, go into the layers menu and create a duplicate layer. Select the top layer and go to Image/Adjustments/Desaturate. The top layer will turn to greyscale. Then simply go back to the layer menu and adjust the opacity of the top layer to allow the color to show through. Here is an example of mine: http://www.gobeyondwebdesign.com/blankiecolor.jpg

    Hope this makes sense ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Thanks, Jennifer,
You have just helped me make a breakthrough. I am so excited. My next quest is to figure out how to make my photos look painted on. I don’t know the technical jargon, but I want to make my daughters blue eyes and maybe some flowers the only color in a picture with the rest black in white. Any tips? you can email me if you don’t want to hijack Doni’s messages any further. I will share some of my photos with you after I play with my new knowledge. Thanks again.

  6. Thanks for helping me out Jennifer:)! Amy – the trick is layers layers layers.

    1. Make a duplicate layer of your photo.

    2. Desaturate your top layer

    3. Use your eraser tool (or lasso) and erase the top desaturated layer only over the eyes and flowers. I would suggest doing this zoomed in very close. I would also suggest setting the opacity of your eraser to 30% or less to start. Keep erasing over the top until it looks like.
    4. When you like the finished product, flatten all the layers:)

    Have fun!

  7. This again is a layer. You make your image b&w, add a layer, and then with low pacity (you don’t want the color totally opaque or you’ll have a bright blue blob in the middle of her eye) you use your choice of brush/pencil tools to color the places you want colored… or, correct me if I’m wrong gals, you might have the colored photo with the b&w layer over top – then erase only the areas where you want color and the natural color will show through?

  8. Golly gee, call me stupid – I have the Rebel too & can’t even figure out how to get the date on the cd so it will print out on my photos. I also have Photoshop 7.0 & can’t do much there but crop & edit a tad. lol….I sure am blonde! But hey, after 3 months of having the Rebel, my photos are finally turning out good! ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Thanks ladies for all your help. I can’t wait until the babies are tucked in tonight, and I have time to work with layers. I played around with it for about 5 minutes today and really loved the results. I was a textile designer and have always worked with a flat image. Layers are completely new to me, but I think they are my new best friend. Thanks again, everyone.
