Guess what! I get to go on a DATE tonight!!! Yippeeeeee!!!! Jim and I and my mom and dad are going to a German restaurant in downtown Glendale. Birthday celebration a week late:). Grandma is watching the boys. Hope SHE is excited! LOL. She will be going back to Chicago soon so she has to fit in every opportunity she can.
Speaking of my birthday (and this is mostly for Heidi’s interest), guess what I wanted? I made an EIGHT disc set of all my old country favorites! Heidi is that too fun or what? I have 160 songs in this collection so far. When I was young, country was my all time favorite and I had so many country cassette tapes. Who in the world wants to go through cassettes and burn to cd’s though and I never get to listen to them anymore. Sooooo I downloaded old favorites off walmarts site and burned favorites from all my other country albums. Wayyyyyyy tooo fun! Speaking of country, I can’t wait to get back into wrangler sizes:). I didn’t even own a pair of levi’s until I was married LOL. And yes I will too wear them.
Jim is teasing me about my reunion with my past and he can’t believe that I would have downloaded Marie Osmond songs. (All in Love, Meet Me in Montanna, Your Still New To Me….) He just doesn’t understand my love for old classics. He is being totally unfair about this in my opinion. His exposure to country was pretty limited because he was too absorbed in Metallica…shhheeesh. Therefore, his opinion on these matters does not count a lick. So there. Heidi would agree I am sure.
It is my job though to raise a new generation of country lovers. The cutest cutest thing in the world happened in regards to this a few days ago. One of my very favorite country groups of all time is Restless Heart. Heidi sang “I’ll Still Be Loving You” at our wedding. Anyhow, I was playing “Hummingbird”. Anyone remember that song? It grooves big time! Ty loves music and loves to dance with mommy so he was happy as could be. Tanner is so shy that when I start dancing he gets embarrassed. Is that for his sake or mine? LOL. When I played Hummingbird though something incredible happened! Tanner started yelling for me from the other room. I ran in to see what the crisis was and with wide eyes he said “LOOK MOMMY!”
When I looked down, his little foot was tapping away to the rhythm! He couldn’t help himself! The beat began to bubble out of him and he just could not control it LOL! His astounded look was unforgettable. Not even Tanner could believe he was on the verge of dancin’.
I also have had to play Josh Turner’s “Long Black Train” about 2000 times and Tanner now calls him “our guy”. Does he have the most awesome low country voice EVER or what?
And since Heidi will want to know this….here is a list of some of the artists on my collection:
Shania, Garth, Clint, Diamond Rio, Exile, LeAnn Rimes, LeAnn Womack, Marie Osmand, Dan Seals, Vince Gill, John Berry, Josh Turner, Martina McBride, Rascall Flatts, George Strait, Randy Travis, Alison Kraus, Laurie White, Trisha Yearwood, Paul Overstreet, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Judds, Wynonna, Restless Heart, Keith Urban, Susan Ashton, Wilkinsons, Kinleys, Kenny Rogers (who Jim say’s is NOT country), John Michael Montgomery, Billy Dean, Collin Raye, Billy Ray Cyrus, Little Texas, Jo Dee Messina, Chris LeDoux, Doug Stone, Lonestar, and yes even a few Willie Nelson:) Oooohhhh….just remembered… can’t forget Charlie Daniels! “Devil Went Down to Georgia” is definitely a classic!
Singing XXX and OOO’s right now –
Off to a night on the town!!!

oh you KNEW i’d love that! you know i’ll be trying to bootleg a copy too. ๐
And just think of how you can embaress your children with clothes. My favorite is the ugliest pair of sunglasses from the thrift store that I insist on wearing to the ski resort! Truth be that I can’t see as well in my semi fashionable ones. My Heidi acts like she doesn’t know me in them.
Yee Haw!!! I never knew of this passion you had for country music, and I have to say it made me all giddy inside to hear it!! I too am a huge country music fan. Especially 70’s and 80’s country. I’ll sing Meet me in Montanna with you any day Doni!! So what would Jim classify Kenny under? ๐
i keep thinking of “somebody else’s moon” – i remember being in california once and looking at the nighttime ocean and thinking of that song. ๐
I too am a country girl, and I am bound and determined to get back into my Wranglers. My husband is the rock n roll guy but will actually listen to country now, he really has no choice. lol. I love the old stuff by Reba and Alabama. Thanks for “taking me back” this morning.
So does Mr. Jim still listen to Metallica? If so, I’m thinking this just might explain his previous black eye. You know, he might have been beebopping just a little too rough to some heavy metal & bopped himself right in the eye!? Hmm….. ๐
Btw, no Brad Paisley in that group of artists? ๐ More importantly, no REBA? ๐
oh boy – i’m about to get on my brother-in-love’s bad side… here goes – since when is metallica considered music anyway? ๐
Oh Girl do I have GREAT news for you! Wrangler has a new line of jeans for women called Aura. They are AWESOME! Stretchy comfy AND they run a size big, so you actually buy a size smaller than you normally wear…how cool is that! Sounds like you were country when country wasn’t cool, too! LoL!
Jenn
we were both pretty country – but it actually WAS cool where we lived, wasn’t it? ๐ hee hee…
I remember walking in the “big mall” (while in Jackson for a cattle show) in my boots and wranglers and people would STARE! Did I just give away that I showed cattle? Oh my!
Wow! Good topic! Guess I am not the only cowgirl at heart huh?
Ann Marie – Sounds like it only gets worse then? Great. I am bound to be my children’s laughingstock LOL.
Kristi – How funny we didn’t know this about each other? Singing with you right now. You’d have to ask Jim about Kenny:)
Heidi – Oh Yes! Good one! (Somebody else…) I always loved that one too and I admit that I forgot this one.
Melissa – I went to several Reba concerts and I love her style/personality but I have never been a huge fan of her music. While she certainely does have some classics, she didn’t hit my top artist group:). As for Brad Paisely, I stopped listening to Country as much before Brad came on the scene so I haven’t “bonded” with him yet. About 7 years ago, I started listening to mainly just Christian music. While I love Country, I don’t “get” anything out of it so my preference is still Christian because it meets multi-dimentional needs:). I rarely make time to hear new artists now. I only came across Josh Turner by accident:) (I have to stay caught up on Shania and Martina though)
And I got to check out the Aura’s:)
Fun to have this little girlfriend chat this morning!
Hi Doni, Long time no talk!! I miss you, and Ty too. Good time for me to long on and read your site, I LOVE COUNRTY music!!!! I never knew that you had a country side to you, but I have to agree that it is the best. My favorite group right now has to be “Rascall Flats” and the song God bless the broken road. I know that you like that song too, I read it once before on here and I have to agree that it is a great song for our circumstances. Sorry that it has been so long, but I really have to thank you for that poem that you wrote. It is a funny story actually how I came into that poem, my mom and I were talking one my cell phone and i was at the house and she was out and my cell does not get very good service at my house. So we lost service so I went to use the house phone and the internet was on so I went to turn it off and there it was !!! I sat there and cried as I read the whole thing and then reading comments coming to my moms I balled even more. I got it in the mail I read it again and I just started crying all % ! I showed my teacher at school and she cried as well. I better let you go cause this is kind of long for a comment. Just wanted to say Hi and I miss you and we should get together again soon. Hi Heidi how are you!?!?! I love you Doni give little man hugs and kisses for me I love you guys Give one to tanner too and tell Jim I said hi and your mom and dad and your whole family I miss them all.
doni & amanda! hi! so nice to think amanda was kind enough to mention me – i’m doing well – even better now! ๐ hee hee… i’m so glad to know that doni’s poem touched you so much. she gave me a preview over the phone and of course, i got all choked up, and felt certain it would be a blessing to your heart and to many others who would also read it. you are very very special to us amanda. i don’t know you but i love you and i pray for you. you have walked through so much more than many elderly women at such a young age. it causes me to think that God must have some extra special things in store for your life as you follow Him. you’re a beautiful young woman. i hope to meet you one day soon. i will be in phoenix this month and wouldn’t it be something if it worked out that i could meet you? maybe!
i also love rascal flats – heard a song of theirs just a little while ago and just sang along and enjoyed beeboppin’ down the road. ๐
reba is a GREAT performer – loved seeing her in concert. there are other female voices i like too though. if i could borrow a voice for the day i think it would be martina’s – of course wynonna is something great too!
ok – gotta run
heidi jo
Hi again, Thank you for all of those kind words that you had to say about me. I would love it if we could all get together and hang out or meet up or something that sounds like it would be very very fun!!! I do not know you either and I love you too. We all know that Doni has a way with words and she makes something amazing out of them all. That poem means very much to me and I am sure that it has to inspire people with open adoptions. I tell my friends all the time about what happened in my case and they do not see the good in it, but I do. I know that Jim and Doni were the right ones to raise Ty, they are amazing people, and older people that I know who hear of the story see how lucky I am to have gotten people like you Doni. I love you guys very much and hope to see you soon… Good Night
Amanda – And we hope to see you soon too! Been missing you. It hurts my heart when people make insensitive and uneducated comments to you. I am so proud of you for the way that you have been able to stand up under this pressure even when I know it is so hurtful. Irregardless of what “people” think…I believe with my whole heart that when Ty is able to express his heart on this subject, all the hurtful comments will pale in comparison to what Ty knows to be true. Our little boy will know that you sacrificed a huge part of yourself FOR HIM. For HIS sake. I believe that kind of love will have a profound impact on his life and he will honor you for this choice always. Know that Jim and I will always tell him what an enormous price you paid out of love for him. I love you Amanda.
*Funny conversation to be having back in forth for all the world to see but I think there are several people who will benefit from hearing both of us on this topic. You and I though aren’t afraid to take on the world are we? LOL.
i’m so happy to be part of this conversation in a small way. doni is the sister of my heart and who she loves i love too. ๐ besides that, whenever someone shows love and kindness to her family, just as with my (“other”) family, i count it as a personal favor. if you love my family and show it, i am grateful and feel complimented whether i’m in the same state or not. does that make sense? maybe a better way to say it is this – anyone who shows love to my family wins favor with me. ๐ amanda has shown great, deep, beautiful, TRUE love to my family in the Brinkmans. can you guess just how much favor you have with me sweet lady? ๐ HUGE! ๐ maybe just maybe we can work out this little meeting… doni… we might have to work on this. ๐
