Cover of AZ Republic

I went to get milk this morning and bought the AZ Republic (something I don’t normally do but I was “checkin) ๐Ÿ™‚ We are on the cover of the Valley and State section this fine morning (section B). They seem the same but the paper has pictures that the online article doesn’t.

Here is a link to it.

What do you think? ๐Ÿ™‚

I have a few comments to make about several things printed but I think John was pretty fair in his depiction and I think he was kind in his representation of me. I giggled over his 10 minute response remark but I can’t deny it. ๐Ÿ™‚ Of course I knew the word zealot would come up some where LOL.

One thing written, was pretty ironic to me.

“The Ethics Committee of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine sees an embryo as a “potential human being worthy of special respect.”

The society believes embryo research is ethically acceptable if the embryos are treated with respect and the research is likely to benefit human health. “

Am I nuts or does that sentence say that the ASRM see’s that embryos are worthy of special respect and then goes on to say it is ethically acceptable to terminate them through research?

I wish someone would have said that to me. I would have had a real good time running with that one. Believe me, if anyone determines to terminate my life for research without my permission I don’t think I am going to feel real “respected” ๐Ÿ˜‰ .

I also would point out that if an embryo thaw’s in a cryopreserved tank – using the phrase “it is rendered useless” is an interesting way to describe death…don’t you think?

I also thought it interesting that he quoted woman’s pro choice groups as defining the embryo as a non person because an embryo is simply cells with no nervous system. How very scientific. Is someone (yet again) picking and choosing what will biologically define personhood? Come on now.

Oh and Jim’s very favorite line will be “…and his mother’s jet black hair”. He is going to say “See! Even he agrees your hair is black!” (We have been arguing that point for years!) LOL.

And one other IMPORTANT thing….our adoption agency is “Nightlight” Christian Adoption not “Nightline”. You can visit them at www.snowflakes.org.

And Heidi will want to know “But did you like the picture?” LOL! I’ll post a copy later. I never like pictures of me but the “family” theme was cute.

  1. Fairly good representation but missing some heart. The ending is funny but I’d love to have had more laughter in the writing of it. ๐Ÿ™‚

One missing link in all of this is the fact that you do not suggest people make and freeze embryos for the sake of adoption. You aren’t advocating creation of more by suggesting that the ones already frozen be given the opportunity to be adopted and live. I hope more people will realize that fact.

Also, as you and I discussed, this seems as good a time as any to comment that not all frozen embryos need rescuing. There are many whose genetic parents will still carry them or who love them so much that they are offering the chance for them to live through adoption. Those babies don’t need to be rescued as their parents (genetic or adoptive) are caring for them. The ones at risk of destruction are the ones who need to be rescued. Have I stated this part of our conversation clearly? Let me add – we love and appreciate genetic and birth-parents who have made the choice to love their children with adoption placement. It is a beautiful and sacrificial gift that has not gone unnoticed. Thank you for choosing life.

  2. Doni,
I think overall the article is nice….the other side to this debate sounded weak though.
I just love the picture of Tanner.
