So let’s see…..in the last two day’s what kind of trouble has little Ty stirred up? This week’s trials have been rooted in my lack of attention to details. Since Ty was mobile, I have had my kitchen gated off. That gate is almost NEVER opened. The ONLY time we open it is when we are unloading groceries (who wants to step over a gate several times with bags). I am doing late night shopping trips and this week did not get home with groceries until after 11:00 PM. I unloaded the cold stuff but left everything else to pick up the next morning. I forgot to close the gate. The next morning Ty and I had an eggo with syrup for breakfast. When he was finished I put him down in the front room but he immediately came and found me in the kitchen. I was not paying attention because Grandma is in town (Jim’s mom) and we were talking while I was doing the dishes. I glance down and Ty had grabbed the syrup bottle off the table and had covered his shorts and legs and my floor in maple syrup. Of ALL the things to grab…..
One night we went to Grandma’s house. She is living in Chicago half the year and is only visiting us for a week. I was in her kitchen talking with her and Ty thought it wonderful that Grandma didn’t have locks on her cabinets. He doesn’t have the opportunity to open cabinets in the kitchen or bathrooms at home. Guess what the first thing was that he snagged out of his Grandma’s kitchen cabinet? The Comet!!! Thank the Lord I was standing there and I snagged it right as he got it to his lips. Scared me! Grandma is going to have to get cabinet locks too!
At Sweetie’s house he learned to turn her dishwasher on since her kitchen isn’t gated. Sweetie needs cabinet locks too.
Back to the grocery issue….
So I relocated some of my grocery bags to my bedroom because they were not food items. They were next on my list to unpack. Next thing I know Ty is crawling around the house with a bottle of Modge Podge glue that he had taken from the sack in my room because the door was left open. Holy cow! It never ends. I try so hard to keep every cabinet locked, door shut, kitchen gated etc. but never fail, he gets a narrow window of opportunity and he is all over it. The worst possible thing to grab is exactly what will catch his attention too! He managed to get an entire fruit roll up out of a package and stuffed into his mouth this week too (Tanner’s). Again, thanking the Lord Sarah saw it! Ty must have very busy angels.
Big News!
We FINALLY at the age of 18 months…drumroll….moved Ty to HIS bedroom!!!! His crib has been in our room all this time but he is now relocated to his John Deere nursery. He is handling this transition well! Of course, I have a monitor in the room and it picks up video and audio well so I haven’t really cut the chord but that was a big huge step for me! (His first night in his own room was August 6th, 2005)
Talking
Ty is still not increasing his speech much so we are working harder on baby sign. I tried to change his gimmee sign to please or more but he really likes his own so I guess we are sticking to Ty’s sign for “I want”. He can blow kisses, wave, and attempts an “eat” sign by putting closed fingers to his mouth. I am going to have to get really disciplined about this because he seems to pick up signing better than language right now.
OT
I tried to get Ty in for OT to a nearby therapy group but their waiting list was 80 children long! I ended up having to choose a group in Carefree which will be a 30 minute drive away but at least it is a pretty drive. His first OT session/eval is tomorrow.
PT
Ty took 4 steps for his PT last week. We are making progress in this area but since he still won’t stand on his own, I am fearing that he may not make a September walk date. I haven’t given up hope yet but I am questioning whether or not we’ll make it. This is getting a tad frustrating because I don’t “get” what the hold up is. Obviously preemie delay but his other preemie friends are walking or are darn near and since Ty doesn’t have any diagnosis at this point I would think he would be closer to mastering this skill, I don’t know what to think. Just needs more time I guess.
My favorite thing he does right now is squint up his nose and eyes and grin at me. He usually does this when he is being onery. He knows how to work me. He is going to be such a charmer. As his mother, I find him absolutely irresistible.
One response to “Simply Irresistible”
It is delightfuyl to hear about Ty’s accomplishments. Just watch him go Doni! Ruth is now such a talker. She went from just a few easy phrases to full sentences in a week here recently. She is 23 pounds and has a healthy appetite. We are to sippy cups also. Her big thing is “potty toilet” although when I changed her bedtime diaper this morning and suggested potty she pulled her diaper on tight and said “no potty-diaper!” Alas we are getting closer. Our little ones developing so well at their own paces. The joy I get seeing them BUSY members of our families leaves me speachless sometimes!
Love,
Ann Marie
