Prayer Request – Hurricane!

This morning at 12:10 AM my friend Jennifer posted the following comment on my Strawberry post! I am putthing this in a separate posting because I want everyone to see it. The hurricane that hit New Orleans this morning could leave 1 million homeless. I read one article about a man in New Orleans calling for help on his cell phone while trying to bust a hole in his roof to escape his quickly flooding house.

To Jennifer – I am praying!!! Check in with us soon please!

To all of you affected by Hurricane Katrina – please check in!

I read these verses this morning and thought of you:

Isa 43:1 …”Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.

Isa 43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; …

PRAYER REQUEST: Dear Friends, Please be in prayer for those of us in South Mississippi, Alabama, & New Orleans as Hurricane Katrina bears down on us in the upcoming hours. We do not know what lies ahead, but we will “lean not on our on understanding,” and “trust in the Lord w/ all your heart, soul, & might.” Thank you for being so faithful in prayer for others.

Love to all,

Jennifer C.

  1. JENNIFER!!!! WHERE ARE YOU????? Heidi and I are getting really worried and my family has been calling me to see if I have heard from you yet! I doubt you have internet access anywhere or even phone access! We are praying praying praying that you and your family are safe!

  2. I have been parying and still am. I am from Louisiana and my whole family still lives there. Mostly in the central and northern part of the State so as far as I know they are all safe! But seeing the devastation of New Orleans on the news today is just horrible! And the weirdest thought entered my mind? What about all the animals at the Audobon Zoo? Strange huh? I do know they starting evacuating the Childrens Hospital down there yesterday evening…
My husbands unit has been put on alert her ein OKlahoma also that they might start convoying supplies down to the relief effort… everyone will bein my prayers…

  3. Shayla and Sammie – please let us know when you have confirmation that your families are ok! I can’t even imagine New Orleans being completely flooded. My Dad is watching MSNBC and he said the city will be shut down entirely for at least 2 months. There are still people on their rooftops waiting to be rescued.

If there are others that have family in affected areas, please let us know so we can be praying for them as well!

  4. Don’t you just wish your hands could reach far enough? I do! I’m so thankful our prayers go beyond all distance and trust the Lord has his watchful eye on our friends, family, loved ones. May he bring peace to all in the midst of this terrible storm.

  5. I write this w/ tears streaming down my face. Thank you all for your prayers. We are in better shape than most in our area. Only by God’s Grace we got lights and water yesterday. There is extensive damage here and lots of hospitals w/o power that are having to evacuate to larger ones w/ power. Other than lots of down trees and broken windows, our homes are ok. My family is safe. We have about 20 family members from New Orleans staying w/ my in-laws. Their homes are in the lower NO area and they are unsure what lies ahead for them. There is officially no gas or ice in the surrounding area and lots of people are stranded on the highways. The refinerys close by are no more, so we are feeling certain that this shortage will be long term. Please continue to pray for all affected by this storm. It looks like we have a long haul ahead even 2 hours North of New Orleans. My heart goes out to all who are unable to reach family members are are fearful for their safety. Thank you again for your faithfullness in prayer.
    Love to all,
    Jennifer

  6. Thank you Lord! I was really getting worried Jennifer! We will continue to pray for you and your family – the destruction is just overwhelming and I am sure that life is going to be really hard for all of you for awhile. Are your schools in tact? I heard that in New Orleans the kids will be out of school for at least 2 months. Where in the world will all those people go???? TWENTY people at your in laws!??? That is a household that will need a lot of prayer. My thoughts are running wild with all the “What about food? What about work? What about….?” Please continue to keep us updated on how things are going. Thank you thank you for checking!!!! We are leaving on vacation tomorrow and I was going to be very anxious if we left and still hadn’t heard from you. I get tears everytime I even think about what you all are going through and it seems strange that things are so “normal” here that we are going camping – especially when so many in our nation are being forced to camp at the moment – ironies of life.

Love you friend and so glad you are safe.

  7. Well as far as I know now… all of my family is safe.. can’t always get through to them on the phone as the circuits are well overloaded… there is a 4-H camp in the area my mom and all live in and she said they are bringing alot of people there for shelter… it’s not glamorous by any means but there are alot of beds at it…. thank you for thinking of us. I’m sure you have your own worries but always seem to reach out to others…

  8. oh i too am so relieved! thank you Lord for looking after friends who have become so dear to us.

we’ve been praying here in texas as well.

there is so much we want to DO! i have a box of baby clothes i was going to sell at 2nd hand store -then was going to have yard sale… box still sitting here… and now i think it was put off for a reason. i must find a way to donate these clothes to families whose children don’t have clothes due to the hurricane… something tangible to help.

my husband was supposed to go to washington to hunt with his brother and had to put the trip off… a trip they’ve planned for a year and talked about for even longer – a dream hunt, his FIRST elk hunt…. know why? his brother works for an environmental protection agency and is being sent to help with the hurricane. we felt so relieved to think SOMEONE in our family was DOING something hands on even thought it meant hubbies trip was sacrificed. in light of comparison it’s a small sacrifice indeed.

it’s midnight and my hubby isn’t home… he so wished he could do something to help with the hurricane families. he got his wish today. he works with military students and he got wind today that a bunch were coming from one of the bases in the southern states and would now be put in the charge of squadrons on our base. 60+ were coming to his squadron tonight… he’ll have to work extra hours so our family sacrifices but at least it feels like we are doing something, small as it may be.

like doni i wish i could put on my wading boots and get to your doorsteps with bread and water and ice in tow.

lovingly, i will continue to pray. may those affected know the love and grace and peace and hope and strength and provision of the God who loves them most.

  9. Hey all, just a quit( over do) note. All of my family is doing well. They were in their homes and road the storm out together with no injuries to them and just damage done to the house and cars. They are very lucky. We didn’t hear from them for days they were trying to exscape the flloods. Now they are staying with several relatives in Vegas and Colorado, hoping to get home soon but now afraid cause of the water damage that has occured they dont want to see whats been ruined.
It took me so long here Doni to get back to letting you know because Tyler has been sick now for over a month and back in the hsp. this has been a rough patch for us. I am so lost with what else I can do to help get him better. Aghh I feel so sorry for this little guy.

Your boys are soo darling, Tanner in the pics. in the flowers are awesome he is really learning to work the camera! I’m so happy that Ty is walking, what an amazing little doll he is.
