Ding Dat Dong

1 Knight – 1 Darth Vader – 1 Little Red Riding Hood

First let’s talk about my little Knight…

For a couple of weeks I have been asking Tanner what he wanted to be for Halloween.? He didn’t know.? Tanner has a TERRIBLE time making decisions.? I took him to Party City.? Nothing.? To Walmart.??? Nothing.? Talked about ideas.? Nothing.

I gave up.? Figured he was getting to an age where he just didn’t care.? Okay.

Saturday at about 4:00 PM he says “I decided.? I want to be a Knight.”? I tell him that he was a bit too late in telling me that.? I am not the creative costume type and had no idea how I would accomplish that and didn’t figure I would find a Knight costume the night before.? FURTHER, I did not want to teach Tanner that he could put me over a barrel by delaying his decisions until the 11th hour all the time.

Late Saturday night I hear soft crying in the bedroom.? I invite him out to talk to me having no idea what his concern is.? I was surprised when he said “I really want to be a Knight for Halloween”.??? Had I not heard him in his room I never would have known and he likely would never have said.??? Realizing that he DID in fact care, I wanted to come up with a solution for him but also knew I was ill equipped for that.? Hmmmm…what to do?

The next morning at church I describe the above scene to Sweetie and Aunt Beck.? I was in trouble with both of them.? Tanner WAS going to be a Knight.? The problem WOULD be solved that afternoon.? I was instructed to hit the Halloween store (alone because my kids won’t go in there nor do I care for them to) and to Walmart.? Aunt Beck would hit Goodwill and Savers and we would communicate on our finds via cell.? All we found was the sword.? Aunt Beck and Uncle Dave put together his entire outfit using a scarf from Grammy’s closet, and putting pieces together from Goodwill and Savers.? Didn’t they do an awesome job?? I sure think so (and so did Tanner who was absolutely thrilled).? Picture below is Uncle Dave sewing the shield onto the vest with fishing line after the hot glue wasn’t holding.? ๐Ÿ™‚

My mother (like me) really hates to figure out costume stuff so she always deferred to her baby sister on Halloween.? Most Halloweens that I can remember, I was decked out by Aunt Beck.? It was her job and we relied on her for it.? I remember we dressed as matching witches (yes we really did and I really do remember) when I was 3 (that would have made her 19).

I have now been banned from repeating an 11th hour panic and Uncle Dave and Aunt Beck will be assuming costume design for my three children in the future.? That is just good for all parties involved.? ๐Ÿ™‚

Boys will be boys right?? :)? How could I take pics of my boys without a final duel between the Knight and Vader?

Notice Ty’s eyelashes on the right.? Good glory.

This was Karsyn’s costume when she was 2.? Fun to pass stuff down.? I wanted Braxtyn’s Boo costume from when she was 2 but didn’t think to request it before the move.? Maybe next year Aunt Beck?? LOL.

Examining the shoes and switching character to the wolf.? ๐Ÿ™‚

Tori cannot say a couple of letters.? S and TH come out with a D sound.? SH comes out as J and F comes out as B.? Tonight Jamie was over and was telling me about her favorite songs at the B52s concert.? Tori jumps into our conversation and says “Jenna ding dat dong!” I had to have her repeat it two or three times before I finally got my letter substitutions put together to figure out what she said.? Hee hee.?? Here are others we frequently hear:

“I can’t bind my jews and jirt.”
“Can I watch my jo?”
“Let me dee dat!”
“I want dumb ob dat!”

and as Jim reminded me…

Tickle my butt” (tickle my foot) LOL.? Thought I might should warn family about that one.? ๐Ÿ˜‰

My funny baby girl.

Yes.? She did get to wear a tiny bit of lipstick.? She was SO happy.? (She has now destroyed every tube of Burt’s Bee’s lipstick I own because she likes the “hot” ones).

Sometimes Tori really looks like my mother to me.

Not sure what this expression was all about but it was funny.? :)? In character maybe?

Enough Tori pics yet?? Nahhhh…let’s do more.? ๐Ÿ™‚

This is us trying (and failing) to get a wolf into our picture.? The fact that I finally managed a shot with Shania is notable.? A two year old AND a dog in the same shot!? WOW – good day.? ๐Ÿ™‚

Doesn’t our wolf look scary?? ๐Ÿ™‚

Our Jenna girl – the rocker.

Uncle Dave requested the “senior” pose (that is senior in high school pose not senior citizen hee hee) for Aunt Beck who dressed as a woman in the Red Hat club.? Love it.? :)? Red heads do run in the family you know.? ๐Ÿ™‚

After these pictures were taken we went to David and Aimee’s for a Halloween party.? It was so fun to see all the cousins dressed up (minus my precious four).? Zandi wore camo with serious girl bling.? Zane was a solider.? Karsyn was Tink, Ryker an adorable fireman and Cooper a dinosaur.? My sister in loves dressed up too (as usual).? Jodi was a tennis player, Michelle was a Greek Goddess, and Aimee was a ball room dancer.? Michelle is insisting that I dress up next year and she has assumed responsibility for dressing me up.?? :)? We shall see how that plays out.

Funniest line of the night…

Jamie and I got on the discussion of weight issues, desserts, her upcoming wedding and fitting in my dress.? Afraid I was about to launch into my endless layers of anxiety about this she says “DONI!? You don’t need to worry about it!? No one is going to be looking at YOU!” LOL.? Been laughing at that for a week.? Touche.

Second funniest line…

Ty comes in and announced that Tori is outside “voting for apples”.?? Shortly thereafter, Karsyn comes in soaking wet.?? I jumped off the couch in a hurry then to find my soaking wet daughter as well.? She got her apple though.? :)?? Of course she did.? She’s no quitter.

Hope you had a fun Halloween and plenty of candy to show for it.

Please come take mine.? Please.

  1. Fun to see you got so many good ones of Tori this time. Aunt Beck is BEAUTIFUL! Jenna is too fun!

I’m sad to say that no one got any pictures of Jacquelyn…not even me! Don’t know where my mind went on that one. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. awesome pictures, CUTE kids, and glad you guys had such a great time!! Funny about the candy – i just threatened to throw all of ours away this morning ๐Ÿ˜‰ didn’t do it, just threatened.

  3. Cute pictures! I love the costumes, especially the knight! I think I will ask for Dave and Becky’s help next year for costumes because I am challenged in the creativity department!

  4. Wonderful pictures! Tori looked beautiful!! Love her costume! Your family is so creative! Beautiful picture of Aunt Beck!!

  5. that tori has me shaking my head in awe. she is STRIKINGLY beautiful… i mean… wow… i’m just in love.

jenna – super cool rocker – PERFECT look for her.

aunt beck – oh aunt beck – i’ve always thought you sooo sooo pretty. your heart just adds to the beauty – colors you red and lovely from the inside out. ๐Ÿ™‚

the knight costume came out perfectly… those boys look grand. and yes – i noticed ty’s lashes – sooo glad i got to see them up close and personal this year!

  6. You weren’t supposed to post the pic of me, silly. I only did that for Uncle Dave because he insisted!!!!! And everyone’s comments are too sweet – (and too embarrassing!) Oh the kids look so adorable. I noticed that Doni failed to mention the FIRST little red riding hood basket she brought for Tori to C A R R Y!!!! It was a regular size picnic basket. Though it was cute and fit better into the story of the costume, Tori could have sat inside and disappeared, plus I don’t think that tiny little bit could have carried it! ๐Ÿ™‚ Any doesn’t Jenna look scarily too cute – I don’t think I will try to encourage that look!!!!! We are also so happy to have our sweet Shania posing as a wolf for Tori. She is the most precious dog. We love her so much. Lady (who wasn’t in the mood for posing) keeps Shania young and happy. They play and play together and are both such good dogs. Shania especially watches after the kids. Thanks for sharing another fun memory Doni! (Sorry for writing a book!)

  7. Looks like everyone had a great time ๐Ÿ™‚ NEVER too many pictures of Tori or the boys as well, love them, keep it coming ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. This was such a great post! You all crack me up! I’m seriously lacking in the creativity department, too….maybe I should ask Uncle Dave and Aunt Becky to take pity on my kids for Halloween. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Little Red Riding Hood is BEAUTIFUL! And, the pic you took of Aunt Becky is gorgeous! Love the fly-away rocker hair Jenna sported, too. Too fun!
