It is almost midnight and I wish I were sleeping.? I want to call my mother and whine but at this late hour, I will be a sweet daughter and let her sleep.? So here is my sad story for you.? I think I am going to lose my foot.? Well…maybe it isn’t THAT bad.? 😉

Last Wednesday I was unloading my dishwasher.? When placing one of my clear glass plates up on the kitchen shelf, one of them slipped off and shattered on my floor.? A large piece of glass (probably 3 inches long at least) dove into the top right of my foot.? Holy cow did it hurt.? Jim came in to rescue me.? When he looked at it he said “This could be bad.”? As you know, Jim is not an over reactor so I didn’t like the sound of that.? He said the part that entered my foot was about 1/4 inch thick.? He was able to pull it out with ease which surprised both of us.

In feeling around the surface, it seemed as though he got it out.? I didn’t feel any remaining glass.? We both wondered though if the glass went in as far as the bone and if the glass came out easily because it broke inside my foot.???? Don’t you hate it when an injury looks unsubstantial but feels miserable?? The wound itself is nothing – just an entry wound that is insignificant.? Unfortunately, within a day or two, I was feeling strange sensations inside my foot like something was cutting inside or traveling through the muscles or something.? Not terribly painful but certainely creepy and uncomfortable.? Yesterday I really got the sense that glass was in there and traveling because while I can’t feel it on the outside, I feel the traveling sensation of it when I am walking.

Tonight though, I am getting nerve issues.? My ankle is swelling, I am losing feeling in the top of my foot, and from the right side up to the base of the toes my foot is tingling like it wants to fall asleep (also why I am NOT asleep).?? VERY irritating!

David told me that glass eventually works its way out but at this point, I am not too keen on the damage that it’s going to do before it gets out so I am headed to the Dr. in the morning.? That doesn’t sound real pleasant either.? From what I read online, most glass has lead in it and is therefore easily detectible on XRay.??? Think a Dr. can find it and get it out?? My best guess is that it could be over an inch away from the entry area now based on how my foot feels.? It feels like it is cutting across (though oddly I still can’t feel it on the outside or isolate exactly where it is).

I admit to being a little embarrassed about going to the Dr. for a tiny little entry wound but the thought of waiting for this glass to fester and demand its way out – AAAAHHHHH – no thank you!!!!??? I took a hot bath today and am wondering if that is what pushed it over the edge.

Whine whine whine huh??? Like Tanner and Tori, I don’t feel like suffering in silence tonight.? 🙂

Sometimes those peas really pack a punch or am I just a princess?? Don’t answer that.? I am a little sensitive this evening.? 😉
