Troy – Day 10 – July 4th

I really wanted this shot.? The baseball shot – that was for Poppy.? The football shot – that was for big brother Tanner.? Troy though – had his own plan.?? In the first quarter, Troy scored the touchdown.? Mommy accepted her loss (with a big pout) and cuddled baby.? Second quarter proved Mommy is a true driver and does not accept defeat easily.?? He will thank me for this someday.? ;)?? Let it be on the record that mom was his first football coach.? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Today he had his first appointment with his pediatrician.? He is up to a whopping 5 pounds 4 ounces.? Go lil’ buddy.? Despite his tiny size, I am convinced he will be a big boy.? Every seen a tiny lab with huge paws?? That’s what we got going on over here.?? Long arms and legs too.? All was well at the peds office but when I explained about the reflux and the difficulty for him to get past the choking (more so than what I have seen before with my other children), the Dr. was quick to say “Want an apnea monitor?? I’ll get you one tonight.”?? That is what I love about working with the same great pediatrician for over 7 years.? He knows me and I know him.? We work as a team and there is mutual trust.? We have both been through this before and he knew right out of the gate that an apnea monitor was what would satisfy me.? As the Dr. explained, most babies reflux.? Very common occurrence.?? However, premature babies have difficult remembering to breathe when they reflux thus the apnea events.? Because Troy is at risk for this and because we have seen difficulty in the area on more than one occasion now, we want to just take precautions.? He is truly doing awesome so I don’t have major concerns but I want to know that should he have trouble when we are both sleeping, that an alarm would alert me.?? Thanking the Lord for a great Dr. who had no problem giving me the extra reassurance that I hoped for.

Also wanted to mention that Dr. agreed that his likely gestational age was 33 weeks.? He showed me Troy’s feet and explained that the wrinkles of a newborn appear all the way down the foot including the heel.? Troy’s heels are still very smooth.? Based on where the wrinkle line was, and guesstimating back 11 days, he judged Troy was right about 33 weeks.?? Thought that was kind of interesting.? And now you want to see his feet I bet…

This picture taken while in the hospital.? When the Dr. showed me, he pulled his foot more taut so it was more obvious and you can’t see the whole heel in this shot but this gives a bit of a view of it.? See how the wrinkles are pretty prominent until you get to the bottom 1/4?? You would see it better if we pulled his toes back a bit.

Tori Quotes:

(Troy sneezed) – “Mommy he blushed at you.”

(To Tanner) – “Do NOT touch him I said.”

(To Me) – “Can Tanner pet him?”

(To Uncle Dusty) – “Do not take him anywhere.”? (Dusty was holding him in the kitchen and Tori tailed him to make sure he didn’t make off with her baby).

(To Mommy) – “Don’t go back to that big hospital with Troy.”

(To Troy) – “It’s okay.? It’s okay baby.? (Kisses and patting galore)

  1. OOOOHHHHHH, I LOVE the black and white football picture. Huge shocker I know! LOL He is adorable…..its hard to realize that he is premature when you see pictures of him looking so healthy. Then you place him on a football and I remember how tiny he is. Great pics!

  2. I am SOOOOO glad you got the apnea monitor!!! I don’t know why they hesitate to give them to begin with, but I am glad you got it! He is SO cute, and I love the football pic too ๐Ÿ˜‰ He does look so tiny on the football.

  3. You need to change your “Welcome! My name is Doni and you have now found yourself in my little part of the blog world. This blog serves multiple purposes. I am first and foremost, proud mama to Tanner, Ty and Tori. They are priority number one and many of my blog posts are devoted to them…” to include Troy now as well! ๐Ÿ™‚

He’s a cutie! And since I am a Nike fanatic, I love the football pic – even though I’m not a football fan! ๐Ÿ™‚ Adorable!

  4. Loving all the pictures. Still waiting for one particular picture though. Curiosity has me wondering if we will see the famous premature tonka dump truck picture or of course the wipe box comparison. He is truly precious. A big high 5 to the great pediatrician who recognizes that looks do not always out rate factors of prematurity. I too had heard the heel discussion with all four of my premature babies. So glad you got a little extra comfort.

  5. You have an amazing doctor. Works right with you, not only to make sure baby is doing good but to make sure Mommy feels good too. AWESOME!!!! LOVE the pics, keep em comin ๐Ÿ™‚ LOL

  6. So happy for you, Doni! These baseball and football pictures are fantastic! Great ideas!! He is just so precious and so blessed to have such a wonderful family!!!

  7. i want to see more of daddy in the background. ๐Ÿ™‚
