Kingdom of God

“Mommy!?? Can I pick??? Can I? Can I pick can I pick can I pick??? Mommy can I pick?”??

Sigh…oh good heavens…”YES TY YOU CAN PICK”.??

“That makes me happy!”??

“And I am so glad that makes you happy Ty because I have things to do and I need you preoccupied.”??????

With that taken care of, I will commence to begin ๐Ÿ™‚

Famous Ty Phrases Lately

“Good Grif” = Good grief

“It’s NOT my nappy time!?? It’s my wake up time!”

“Tanner’s buggin me”

“Tanner’s boverin me”

“I don’t want somefing”

“I don’t know it!”

“I don’t know somefing”

“Don’t ask me somefing!”

Ty’s Commercial Jingles

Ty loves memorizing jingles.?? I have shared these before but here is the??most recent list of what he loves to recite.

“Subway – EAT FRESH!”

“Quiznos – mmmm good…toasty!”

“McDonalds – Bop bop bop bop – I am lovin it!”

“Burger King – have it YOUR way!”

“Allstate – I am in GOOD hands!”?? (THIS is my favorite! I cracked up when he started saying this one).

At the park – our lil’ friend Luke

When He Grows Up

I asked him who he wanted to be when he grows up and he said “Jack Sparrow”.?? Figures.?? At least he didn’t say “Davy Jones” and he often talks about him too.

More Favorites

I love it when Ty say’s to Jim “HEY big DADDeeeeee”!

At church on Sunday Ty swiped a pink lemonade and after he took a swig said “I don’t like that!?? It’s tooooooo tasty!”?? LOL.?? Thought that was a good way to desribe “tang”….”tooooooo tasty”!?? Creative.

Zandi

This week during bible time I asked Ty what miracle Jesus had performed in the previous night’s story.?? Ty got a twinkle and said “Jesus punched that guy in the nose”…giggle giggle.?? He loves to tease me.

So why though would Ty say Jesus punched someone??? Well, in our house, male aggression is used for bonding purposes ;).?? Remember Daddy is a UFC fan and the boys regularly ask daddy for wrestle time.?? Jim and I had a talk though when this conversation occurred:

Background – boy’s crying.?? Ty first followed by Tanner clearly faking injury.?? They race each other to my room.

(Tanner)”Mommy Ty hit me”

(Doni) “Tanner Ty was crying first.?? What did you do to Ty?”

(Tanner) – Deer in headlights look

(Ty) – “Tanner beat me up!”

I tried to hold it in but I couldn’t…I just cracked up laughing.?? Pllllleeeeeaaaaassseee.?? Oh the drama.?? Ty was fine by the way – not a mark on him.

Kristi and Luke

At this moment Ty is now in time out sitting on the hope chest behind me saying “It’s kinda a mess in here.”?? It isn’t.?? I just cleaned it.?? He is pushing my buttons on purpose.?? Adorable little twirp.

It also made me laugh this week when Ty walked in and said “Do you have a favor?”?? I realized then that I often say “Can you do me a favor?”?? Guess Ty was seeing if he could stock pile some for himself – just in case I had any favors to hand out.?? Good thinkin.

Today when we came in from the park, he stopped on the sidewalk and took notice of the wreath on my front door.?? He then said, “That was nice of Grandma”.?? :)?? Grandma will love that story.?? How did he know Grandma made the wreath and further, I am very surprised he noticed that she recently replaced it with a new one??? (She swaps them out at holiday times – aren’t I lucky?)

Our lil’ friend Beau

Big Steps

I think I mentioned this before but Ty knows at least 75% of his phonetic sounds and I am not teaching him.?? This happened before he turned 3.?? Pretty smart.?? Every day when Tanner and I do schoolwork, Ty asks for “coolwork” too.?? I started doing some flash card with Ty just because he insisted.?? I was teaching him to recognize the word “me” (only because it was one of Tanner’s words).?? He got it.?? Later though when I asked him what the card said he replied “Mommy”.?? I said “No it’s “me”.?? He said “Ya.?? Mommy.”?? We have gone round and round with this.?? I give up.?? LOL.

He also is starting to watch shows a tiny bit more.?? This is a big step for him considering his short attention.?? And his favorite??? The Upside Down Show.?? Do you know why??? It has pretend remote controls!?? His most favorite thing in the world!!!?? Figures THIS would be the show he would get interested in.?? He sits around with a pretend remote in his hand and makes all the little sound affects.?? Quite cute.

??

Cousin Rivalry

So Ty and Zandi get along SOME of the time.?? The were born 5 months apart – though I still see a 9 month gap.?? Except in the area of height – Ty surpasses her by a mile in that department.?? Zandi and Zane were here yesterday and Zandi stayed the night.?? Oh she makes me laugh.?? So fun to have a girl around.?? She is just so appreciative of all the little things that boys don’t pay attention to.?? For example “Aunt Sissy thank you for making me all this food” or “Tanner thank you for holding my door open”. :)?? But she is also quite loud!?? She is totally in charge and runs a tight ship.?? (Very much Sissy as a child ๐Ÿ™‚ ).??

Zandi = TY DON’T DO THAT AGAIN!

Ty = You are BOSSY!

Doni – Ty what did you just say to Zandi? (I figured I heard wrong because he doesn’t know the word bossy does he?)

Ty = She IS bossy!

Zandi – Ooooohhhhh you are soooo cute!

Very funny moment.

Then later…

Background: Tanner and Zandi were using a blanket to make a castle on the bunk beds.?? There had been quite a bit of squabbling between Zandi and Ty so I was thankful for a productive exercise.

Tanner – Look Mommy.?? We made a Kingdom.

Zandi – The Kingdom of God.?? Where we don’t fight!

Where in the world??? Where did she even hear “Kingdom of God”??? She was very serious in her little delivery too.?? She’s a joy.

And Tanner…

I only wrote one “funny” down for my serious boy this week.?? He is quite remarkable at coloring.?? He colors in the line very well and often makes great use of color.?? I have said for awhile that he has artistic talent like Daddy.?? Anyhow he was coloring fire on a matchbox truck color page and was using yellow and orange.?? I thought that was smart the way he knew to mix the colors for fire so I asked him how he knew to do that.?? He said, “My head just felt to do it”.?? :)?? Was rather reminiscent of the “I don’t have any finks in my mind” line I got awhile back.?? Come to find out, Papa has been pirating that phrase and using it on Sweetie when she asks him a question ๐Ÿ™‚ .

Tanner is progressing in his reading lessons and doing very well.?? I had to learn the hard way that he needs daily instruction or it’s too frustrating for him.?? Our little daily stories are 3 short sentences now.?? He needs help but he is still doing really good.?? I am loving spending the time teaching him to read – it has turned out to be a very fullfilling endeavor for mommy and I love watching him grow.?? If only he wouldn’t grow so fast though…five is big enough I think.

  1. I kind of like the green! ๐Ÿ™‚ And I loved the post!! Great pics Doni! Even better stories to share!

  2. The words are a hyperlink to one of the pictures of Luke. I just figured that you REALLY liked that picture and wanted to make sure that we all looked at it again! ;-P

  3. Wow, your little boys are so smart! You may think Ty is behind, but his adjusted age is almost the same as Zachary’s, and Ty is miles ahead in his speech! You are doing a great job with the homeschooling.

  4. Aaaahhhh Sarah you are right! I didn’t catch that. The stupid thing with this updated version of WordPress is that is it’s all WIZYWIG but if you get HTML code in there accidentally you can’t see it. Then if you switch to HTML to edit, I find it very hard to find the problem. I need Jim!!!!!

  5. Oh Doni, what a joy these children are!!! Thanks for the laughter! You can’t help but to just squeeze em and kiss em!!!

  6. I just wanted to agree with you on the reading thing. I love working with Clarisse and teaching her to read and her other classwork. I agree that it has been a wonderfuly special time with her that I am very thankful for it. I am glad you get to spend that time with Tanner too! I have also found it to be the most fulfilling thing I have done as a mom.

  7. Heidi – yes I am using Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons and I love it. My friend Sara A. first recommended it for us (thanks Sara – you were so right about it!). It uses a phonetic alphabet differently than other programs and I think it really simplifies reading. Plus, it instructs you very clearly on how to teach – gives you actual scripting with every lesson. Here was Tanner’s “story” yesterday and he is on lesson 34:
“We will run. I will win. I am not a duck. I am an ant.” Then it has an associated picture for reading comprehension too.

April I totally agree. I may be enjoying it more than Tanner. In a mom’s day you often feel like every task you accomplish gets undone. Finally I am doing something and getting more immediate and longer lasting return LOL! Sometimes we mama’s NEED to see results in a day’s work and I am finding that homeschooling is filling a need for me too.

  8. Doni, I love this update! I can just picture your boys and their adventures. The scene of them running to you because of “Tanner beating Ty up” had me rolling! I’ve made a new rule with my boys that if they must pick a fight with each other there is NO running to mama to make me a human shield. How many times in a day must we stand between two boys shouting “he hit me!!!”
    Arghhhh…. (know what though, I love it ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

  9. well, i know what book i will be buying for seth when his turn comes around! thanks! (what age do they recommend starting this. i’m guessing i’ve got at least a year on that one -right?)
