Jim gets brownie points this week for checking another BIG item off my honey do list.?? He installed my home school cabinets!?? I was a little worried when we got them that they would crowd my kitchen but once they were installed we both thought they look like they should have been part of the original kitchen design.
Note to Heidi:?? Didn’t you say your mom had her cabinets extended down this wall?
The newly installed cabinets are all those to the left of the island behind the kitchen table.??
Closer view.?? You will notice a shadow box on the left side of the counter.?? This is where Tanner’s weekly show and tell stuff will be placed:).?? Doesn’t the counter, the table top, and our NEW floor blend well??? Jim installed that too.?? What a guy!

This picture posted for Susie and Sarah R.?? Wanted you to know I am making significant progress with my pantry.?? Now the fridge….not so much but it’s on the to do. ๐

Funny for the week:
Now that the crib rail is off Ty’s bed, he takes it upon himself to clean his room before bed.?? Not because I asked him to, because he has that little fettish about NOTHING being in his room at night that doesn’t belong there.?? He doesn’t actually clean it, he just throws everything into the hallway.?? I have a funny video clip of Tanner harrassing him about these issues and I promised Grandma I would put it on the web for her next week so that will be up soon.?? Anyhow, last week during his room inspection he asks me to remove his John Deere Tractor from his shelf.?? I ask him why and he said “It scares me”.?? I said “Your being silly.?? That tractor does not scare you.”?? He said, “But the puppet does!?? He never closes his eyes!!!”?? LOL.?? I have a cow puppet in a bucket on his shelf and Ty is right – puppets do not close their eyes at night.?? LOL.
I have been really proud of Ty lately.?? He is making huge strides with his attention issues.?? Two examples:
1.?? I have instituted “blanket time” to teach him to play independently.?? He has to stay on his big special blanket with a box of toys until the timer goes off (I set it for 30 minutes).?? No toy is allowed off the blanket or he loses it.?? He is not to extend so much as a toe off the blanket.?? I wanted to give him strict boundaries so that he wouldn’t get distracted and then not play.?? He has done awesome with this and he seems to like it.?? It is the ONLY time he will actually sit and play with something other than an electronical device for more than 2 minutes.?? Tanner actually asks for blanket time because he knows that Ty can’t come disturb him and his toys if he is under “blanket time” rules.?? Tanner asked me to institute a no talking rule too because he didn’t want to hear Ty’s star wars imitations.?? I said no.?? ๐
2.?? Ty has been begging us to go see “Pirates”.?? We thought there was no way he could sit through a 3 hour movie.?? We took him to Shrek instead.?? He did very well.?? Then he begged for Pirates again and we said “no way” and we took him to Ratatouille.?? He did very well.?? He again begged for Pirates.?? On Tuesday we finally decided to try Pirates for Jim’s birthday.?? Would you believe Ty sat quietly at the theater for the ENTIRE movie??????? He fell asleep the last ten minutes only.?? He was AWESOME!!!!?? Next morning he says “Mommy that was a GOOD movie we saw last night!”?? :)….and for those of you wondering, neither of my children are prone to nightmares and they don’t scare easily or even revisit movie scenes (with the exception of Mr. The Incredible) so Pirates was not the slightest bit upsetting to them.??
Off to a busy day.??

What a guy! That looks amazing! They absolutely look like they were part of the original kitchen!
your boys never cease to entertain. ๐
i think having the cabinets built all the way down was an ‘add-on’ feature for those building this house (my folks moved into the same style house from the same builder before doni did – in case readers are wondering). my mom always WANTED to build on in that area but instead they had an inexpensive hand-me-down china hutch that they painted black and it looked REALLY rich and nice.
the cabinets that perfectly match the kitchen are AWESOME and do look they belong. jim is a skilled handyman and that is good news for a HAPPY wife!!! wooohooo! GO JIM!
I LOVE the idea of Tanner’s show and tell box… great idea.
and doni – your pantry is looking AWESOME!!! GOOD JOB!
OK! Forget the stinking spottless pantry, check out those cabinates!!!!!!!!!!!! Ohhhh la la. Holy Guacamole!!!! Doni,It TOTALLY finishes off your kitchen. It is beyond beautiful!!! Ok I’m ready to run off to Home Depot and buy me some. Hubby, sorry I traded your chair and tv for 10 cabinates that will take over the family room,it’s for OUR children’s educational purposes!! (how does that sound? think he’ll buy it?) ๐
Ok..after drooling for awhile over your cabinates I came to my senses. (Yes I’m still telling hubby his room is gone)..but I forgot to give Jim a high five for the fantastic handy man work!! Although… it looks like the left cupboard is slightlyyyy leaning to the left.
SO KIDDING!!! Doni I bet your loving it so much, that is awesome!! Your kids are adorable. Reading about Ty is SO much like reading about my Olivia. Olivia has to have her room cleared before bed too ๐
The puppet-ROFL!!!
Blanket time-BRILLIANT IDEA!! SO gonna start that tomorrow ๐
where did you get the can holders for your pantry? You just can’t believe HOW SMALL our kitchen is and right now I have extra storage for food DOWN the the basement on the OTHER SIDE of the house, talking about inconvenient, but that would solve a lot of trips down and over ๐
Ty always reminds me of Sam, have you tried Lego’s with him? That keeps Sam busy for quite awhile and not much keeps him still.
kristy gave you the best response of all! ๐
by the way – i still can’t figure out why one family needs that many cans when they don’t live in hurricane country…. hmmm….. ๐
The cabinets look great!! Now where did all the trash go?!!!!
I am not sure if I really believe that is a picture of your pantry. I might have to come over and see for myself.
I am hoping to tackle some clutter issues at my house once the twins start school in in just over a week. You have inspired me.
Heidi – Jim can’t figure that out either. In fact, that is the exact reason I bought the can organizers. I have such a terrible habit of “losing” cans and then replacing stuff I already have and I thought that if I could see all my cans better, I would quit buying stuff already in my pantry three times over. ๐ I told Jim the can organizers were actually going to SAVE us money.
Sarah – Isn’t that the beauty of it???? The trash can – the HUGE OVERSIZE trash can that uses the outdoor lawn bags – is in the tall pantry!!!!!!! That alone was worth the price of the cabinet I think LOL.
I love the cabinets! Yeah, it looks like they have been there forever! I love tall cabinets like you put in too. I have one that has my vascuum, broom, orbitor, etc. Best think in my house I think! Congrats! Well done Jim!
Love those cabinets. Isn’t my son THE BEST? I love the question about where did all the trash go? Hee Hee. Now, how about some before and afters of the fridge. I think that will be highly amusing for all of us.
Thanks for putting the videos up.
Love you.
