Teaching Trials

This morning while teaching, Tanner and I were talking about the early Mesopotamian cities of Summer and Akaad.?? We were talking about the earliest form of writing, cuneiform, and early irrigation.?? Now I ask you, who in this scenario is teaching who??? ๐Ÿ˜‰

D – Tanner if you had a large piece of land and you were growing corn and you need to water your corn but you didn’t have access to modern equipment – not even a garden hose…how could you water all your fields?

T – (Looking at me like I asked a really dumb question).?? I’d ask God!?? He has all the power!

Uh…ya….other than that??? LOL.?? Maybe I should have started with “no garden hose AND there is an act of God drought”?

Later in the day, driving home from Walmart.

D – Tanner look at??that beautiful sunset tonight!

T – I wish we lived over by that sunset.?? It would be much nicer over there.

D – (How does one explain this?).?? Well…actually all people live about the same distance from the sunset no matter where you live.????

T – Oh ya.?? The??Chinese too?

D – Okay…um…no.????I was wrong – that was a bad explanation and not correct.?? The Chinese are on the other side of the world and they can’t see the sun at all right now so I guess actually at this moment we live closer to the sunset than the Chinese do.?? At this point, I was drawing a total blank as to how to explain this.

LOL.?? I was??trying to explain why you couldn’t “drive to” to the sunset but I don’t think I ever got my point across.?? I’ll have??to shine a lamp on a globe next I guess :).

While working on Tanner’s phonics (Explode the Code), Tanner was getting frustrated over two sentences.?? One was “The cat has a fan”.?? The other was “A cap has a fin”.?? He reads both and I say “which is the right sentence”.?? Tanner say’s “I don’t know!?? I am confused!”?? “Confused about what?”?? I ask.?? “What is in that picture?”?? I am expecting him to say “A cat with a fan”.?? Instead he say’s “A DOG!”?? LOL!?? Ahhhhh….I guess it is all about asking the right questions.?? His confusion wasn’t over the sentences but the picture.??:)

Tanner has decided that he needs absolute quiet during school time.?? Quite unfortunate for Ty.?? Ty had the Upside Down Show on the other morning and Tanner kept saying “Mommy that’s distractin’ me!”?? I finally turned it off.?? A few minutes later he still wasn’t concentrating well.?? When I questioned him about it he say’s “Somehow the Upside Down Show is still in my mind”.?? ๐Ÿ™‚

I love that Tanner still say’s “Mommy” and never “Mom”.?? Wonder how much longer that will last??? Ty calls me “Mommy” and also “Mama”.?? He told me yesterday that he likes “Mama” better ๐Ÿ™‚

Did I mention that Tanner lost his second tooth??? We have a dentist appointment for him next week because his two adult bottom teeth are growing in so crooked.?? Wonder if they will pull more to prevent the overcrowding??? Looks like orthodontics will be in our future.

??

Words

And for Aunt Christine…Tanner is now exercising the word “wicked” but he say’s “wickett” instead.?? LOL.

Speaking of funny words, Ty has a slight lisp lately and I really enjoy how X Box is more like Xth Boxth.?? :)?? We celebrated the Feast of Tabernacles last week (more on that on a night when I have more energy ๐Ÿ™‚ ), and Tanner kept wanting me to say the “Feast of Knuckles” words LOL.??

Smarts

One day while Tanner was playing X Box, I gave Ty a big bowl of cut up fruit at the table.?? Ty, usually scrambling to play X Box, was enjoying the bowl of fruit without Tanner to share with.?? Tanner eventually takes notice and comes over to “share”.?? Ty – and this is the best part – very SWEETLY – say’s “Tanner.?? Go enjoy your game.”?? ๐Ÿ™‚

He tried “sweeting” me up today in the grocery store too.?? First he gave me a big unsolicited hug.?? Then he say’s “Mommy.?? I like you.”?? Then he say’s “Can I have some of that candy?”?? Nice.?? We had a little talk then about manipulation.

Superheros

Did you know that they have an Incredibles Cereal now??? Kathy told me about it and Ty found it all by himself today at Fry’s.?? He carried the box everywhere and rode home in the car just holding the box.?? I ordered him a fleece Incredibles blanket off Ebay for Christmas yesterday.?? He has an Incredibles jacket that my friend Missy sent him and he keeps begging to wear it everyday.?? Unfortunately, it will be a bit before we need jackets.

Tanner isn’t a big “Incredibles” fan.?? He is more in to Power Rangers or Star Wars.?? One day he was wrestling on the couch with Ty and I overheard him say to Ty “Let the Lord be with you”.?? That is a rather interesting spin on “May the force be with you” which is what he was acting out.?? :)???? Tanner needs to be invoking the Lord’s blessing on his side of the match because 9 out of 10 times, he is the one who ends up injured.?? Ty will take it for awhile but then he’ll just take you down.?? Game over.

  1. seth forgot about the incredibles for a long time but it seems our recent move somehow resparked the interest – don’t know why? maybe he noticed the dvd again and restarted the urge… he even went so far as to want to be mr incredible for halloween – already have the costume and sometimes it drives him crazy that he can’t wear it. yesterday he wanted me to look for yellow hairspray to be like mr incredible. he and ty would make a great team don’t you think? ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. What a FUN post!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Wickett-ROFL!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜› Please tell me you didn’t correct him?

  3. you know Eric still calls me mommy too and I love it…. ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope he doesn’t out grow that for a LONG time ๐Ÿ™‚

We were quick to get Eric’s pictures done this month, we noticed that BOTH his top front teeth are barely hangin on…. he’ll really want his two front teeth for Christmas ๐Ÿ™‚ His bottom teeth straighten out the further up they came, they’re still not completely straight but at his dentist appt this week she said no worries. I hope the same holds true for Tanner.
