Back in November I was reading Athol’s blog and a great deal caught my attention.?? He offered to mail a free advanced copy of his new book Winter Haven to anyone who would read it and then blog about it.?? I was quick to volunteer. 🙂

I finished reading the??book yesterday and I loved it!?? The story takes place on an island off the New England coast.?? Vera, a single young woman, travels to the island to bring back the body of her brother Siggy – her brother that went missing 13 years ago.???? When she arrives on the island, a simple “recovery” agenda turns into something much more when nothing is as it seems or should be.?? There were elements of this book that were reminiscent of one of my favorite TV series, Lost, but with the added bonus of having all the loose ends tied up by the last chapter (how refreshing!).????It feels like a thriller as you read – not quite Ted Dekker edgy but I was definitely wondering where the story was going chapter by chapter and keeping my lights on :).?? The character development in this story really moved me and I cried the last three chapters.?? The book presents some of the most hard to understand concepts in scripture and moves a young woman through the stages of?? the “betrayal barrier” with??God.?? Through grief, anger, fear, submission, reconciliation, restoration and hope…she finds her way back into His arms.?? Riddled with mystery, suspense, and a spiritual journey that may look much like your own, this book will keep??you turning pages way past your bedtime.

I would highly recommend this one?? (and River Rising as well – another book written outside the box).??
