Tanner and Ty

Both of these were taken during testing times but they were still keepers.?? So handsome my boys.

I was playing with natural lighting and color in the above picture.?? I really love intense color and was playing with how far I could push the picture and still “like” it.?? It’s pretty deeply saturated but I thought it looked quite urban and fun (if I do say so myself).?? Notice how Ty is eating with that spoon – also notice he is using his left hand.?? I always wonder if he is left handed naturally or if he defaulted to the left after his brain hemorrages.?? Tough to say because Grandma Cheri is ambidextrious so it could be inherited.?? However, you can tell from his grip that he still struggles with fine motor skills.?? Writing has been a super challenge.?? Not sure what will happen a year from now when we start kindergarten – I may need extra help with that.?? Even now, he will get frustrated and ask me to feed him sometimes.?? Especially if we are eating ice cream and they give you those dumb Barbie sized spoons.?? Who does that??? Gives you ice cream and then indirectly inferrs that you are only allowed tiny bites??? Sheeeshhhh…but getting back on the trail….it is in those moments that his CP is noticeable.?? He still doesn’t want to climb out of our Excursion without help and will ask for help stepping off curbs.?? He can do it but he feels anxious about it.?? He started AIT recently (Home school PE) and he will tell you that he does “not not not not not not not like it”.?? I was concerned that he would struggle with it but I am not going to let him out of it either.?? I wish it were easier for him but God gave him this challenge for a purpose and I know he will find his way.?? We all have thorns in our side somewhere.

Cross your fingers with me because I am doing a family shoot for David and Aimee today.?? We have some zany ideas in mind that should fit those two perfectly.?? Have I mentioned lately that my brother is a loveable nut??? Don’t believe me??? Go to Aimee’s blog and watch what he let his kids do this week…IN HIS HOUSE.?? But as he likes to remind me, if he breaks em’, he can fix em’ (hee hee).?? (He is a Fire Captain).?? HERE is the link.

  1. Thanks for that pic! It is similar to how Nate holds his spoon/fork… Nate also tries holding is in a backward grip.. I’ll have to try and get a picture of him doing that this weekend.. we have an appointment to talk with the pediatrician on the 14th of October!

  2. david IIIIIS a nut!!! LOVED their video. good plug you gave them. ๐Ÿ™‚

that ty… i’m so glad he is facing his challenges but unafraid to ask for help. it will be beautiful to watch him grow THROUGH them, don’t you think? you’re a good mama. ๐Ÿ™‚ and yes – those pictures are keepers. i like your playing with color too. very fun.

sidenote: i’ve not taken pictures i’m super proud of in a long time. no focus (in my brain, not the camera – ha!) just some snapshots knowing i’m gonna be bummed if i miss a moment – but no real drive… i’m thinking more of a routine might help. ๐Ÿ™‚ be prepared for lots of snapshots on my site in the next couple weeks.

  3. You might look into this handwriting program – Handwriting Without Tears. It was created and developed by an OT. http://www.hwtears.com/

Garrett started the program last year in Kindergarten (his school adopted the writing style/teachings last year so even though he was a good writer, he had to learn a new way/style) and he is now doing the 1st grade version this year. He loves it. His kindergarten teacher loved how it worked on all abilities as his class had all types of abilities in it (which is nice for Garrett to learn about as he never been around some of the more severe disabilities before). I actually purchased the preschool program to work with Ethan this year. He just turned three and has some fine motor issues. He is now loving it and asks to do school. The website has a lot of information on it.

I wish my pics looked as good as yours. My boys never want to cooperate. They see the camera and run. Oh well.
