AZ Catch You By Surprise

I am writing this blog post while listening to Andrew Peterson’s “Nothing to Say”.?? I’ll post the words at the end of this post and you’ll know why it seemed appropriate.

There is nothing like an Arizona sunset.?? I complain and complain about no fall, no snow, no greens, no reds, no yellows, no oranges (unless you drive up North)…but just try to top that sunset!!!!?? AZ sunsets move me.?? When I used to have to drive clear to Mesa for work everyday I would just be in awe of God’s mighty and masterful paintings each day.?? Some days I remember feeling like He was watching me just to see the wonder in my face when I looked at His artistry.?? No wonder when He finished with creation He said “It is good”.??

Also not much like an AZ traffic jam which is what allowed me to capture this amazing moment.?? At 3:00 Tanner had his soccer game.?? After that I went to pick up the Christmas tickets. (FYI – I got 80 for Dec 10th at 7:00 so let me know if you need me to hold you any!).?? From there I wanted to run by Michaels to get black ribbon for Tori’s headband.?? I used my handy dandy GPS and found a Michael’s 3 miles away.?? Much to my dismay, Walmart and Michaels neither one had black ribbon.?? WHAT??? Stupid.?? So by the time I was on my way home it was 5:30.?? Shoot!!!!?? I did not want to be on the East side heading Northwest at 5:30 PM.?? As I was driving I was watching this wonderful display of light and color and was so frustrated that I was on the freeway and not outside with my camera.?? When I came around the 51 merging west onto the 101 Loop (on the ramp), we were crawling.?? My camera was on the seat beside me (Tanner’s soccer game) so I grabbed it, rolled the window down (what exactly do you say when your windows are electric??? It isn’t “rolled” but what is it? lol), and started shooting in traffic on the freeway.?? The higher perspective was good too because I was up on the ramp coming around.?? Wasn’t that sweet of Abba to give me that moment and let me record it??? I sure thought so!

While I was at Phx First getting those tickets, I thought I would take a minute to shoot the kids out on their lawn.?? Here are just a couple:

My little peanut is barely bigger than the step.?? :)?? She is sitting on my lap singing to Andrew right now:)?? I think the dress she is wearing was Zandi’s.

I couldn’t decide if I liked this best in color or black and white but I love the moody look:

And one more picture…I want Micah’s mama to get a sneak peek so she knows I am working on his pictures:).?? I first met Micah’s brother Daniel just over two years ago.?? I was trying my best to get Tanner out on the field for his second AIT day and he was having a fit.?? Daniel – who was in Tanner’s AIT 5 year group, came up to me and started giving me counsel on how I could help Tanner adjust.?? It was adorable.?? I wanted to sneak him off the field with me and take him home.?? He was so serious about it.?? I remember him telling me that it was going to be hard at first but that he was going to get used to it and he would be okay.?? Then he says “tell him that!” – which was hysterical because Tanner was standing right there listening to the conversation.?? To humor Daniel, I turned to Tanner and repeated every word of what Daniel said.?? Daniel was pleased.?? ๐Ÿ™‚

Later I had the blessing of meeting Daniel’s mom and his three other siblings.?? I count Debbie a precious friend and was happy to get to spend time with her last week doing Micah’s two year pictures.?? So here is Micah – is he gorgeous or what???

It is 11:00 and Ty is sitting her asking for cuddle time so I will sign out and wish you good night (or good morning).

And here are the words as promised:

Andrew Peterson
Nothing to Say

Hey, Jamie, would you mind
Driving down this road a while
Arizona’s waiting on these eyes
Rich is on the radio
And I think we ought to take it slow
Arizona’s caught me by surprise

Hey, Jamie, have you heard
A picture paints a thousand words
But the photographs don’t tell it all
I see the eagle swim the canyon sea
Creation yawns in front of me
Oh Lord, I never felt so small

And I don’t believe that I believed
In You as deeply as today
I reckon what I’m saying is
There’s nothing more
Nothing more to say

And the mountains sing Your glory hallelujah
The canyons echo sweet amazing grace
My spirit sails
The mighty gales are bellowing
Your name
And I’ve got nothing to say
No, I’ve got nothing to say

Hey, Jamie, do you see
I’m broken by this majesty
So much glory in so little time
So turn off the radio
Let’s listen to the songs we know
All praise to Him who reigns on high

And I don’t believe that I believed
In You as deeply as today
I reckon what I’m saying is
There’s nothing more
Nothing more to say

And the mountains sing Your glory hallelujah
The canyons echo sweet amazing grace
My spirit sails
The mighty gales are bellowing
Your name
And I’ve got nothing to say
No, I’ve got nothing to say

Glory, glory hallelujah
Glory, glory hallelujah
Glory, glory hallelujah, hallelujah

And the mountains sing Your glory hallelujah
The canyons echo sweet amazing grace
My spirit sails
The mighty gales are bellowing
Your name
And I’ve got nothing to say
No, I’ve got nothing to say
Hey, Jamie, would you mind
Driving down this road a while
Arizona’s caught me by surprise

  1. I am so glad you captured last night’s sunset! I saw it in my rearview mirror on my way to work last night and was just amazed once again at the beauty of an Arizona sunset. God is so good. I love seeing Him in the beauty of His creation.

  2. thanks to your introduction to andrew petereson years ago i love that song too. ๐Ÿ™‚ i was actually singing it all over our drive in the shenandoah mountains a couple weeks ago. i couldn’t help myself – arizona or not. ๐Ÿ™‚

that sunset picture is AWESOME! something we don’t see much of here with all the trees in our way. ๐Ÿ™‚ arizona has the best – indeed.

LOVE those pictures at phx 1st….gorgeous little peanut you’ve got there. WISH I WAS COMING WITH YOU TO THE PROGRAM! that is something i really miss – one of our old traditions as a family was to go to that program every year. so much has changed. maybe there’s a good one around here.

and that micah? good gracious does he have the eyes and smile to melt? darling little model. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Thanks for the sneak peak Doni! I love it! I was smiling while reading the story of how you first met Daniel. I remember that day well. I’m thankful for it -the day that our paths crossed! You are such a special person and I count it a blessing to call you my friend!! I love the sunset picture and the one of Tori by the steps! You are gifted!

  4. Doni, please count me in for 5 tickets for the Christmas Play! If I had to choose between the B/W or Color photo of Tori, I would go with the color…..the contrast just brings her expression into play a little more! Too cute….what a great spot for pics.

  5. Gorgeous sunset Doni! I LOVE how you can snap pictures where ever you are (or your kids are) and get the most precious pictures from it. She is so stinking adorable ๐Ÿ™‚
