Heirlooms

This week I was hunting for something in my hope chest and pulled out this dress of mine from when I was a baby.?? My mom sewed it for me about 35 years ago.?? :)?? It does have a rather 70’s flare to it doesn’t it??? ๐Ÿ™‚ hee hee.?? Seemed like a swell idea to shoot my own daughter in it.?? I like the simple pattern so much that I then called my MIL and begged her to make more of them for Tori.?? My mom doesn’t sew much anymore so I had to commission my sweet MIL.???? She is such??a Jane of all trades and I have to make good use out of her grandmotherly talents before she goes back to Chicago for the summer.?? She is making another dress for me right now that I can’t wait to get.?? :)?? The pattern for this is so simple you could literally lay it out flat and trace it.?? It actually unbuttons flat.?? I’ll post the back of it futher down.?? I am going to have it made a few inches longer because I love ankle length dresses.?? Posting this for MY mom of course so she can enjoy her grandbaby in the dress she made her baby.?? :)?? If any of you are seamstresses and really want to try a simple project, let me know and I’ll take a picture of the dress flat so you can get an idea as to the pattern.?? Wouldn’t this look lovely in all white?

Yes I know – you just want to kiss her smack on the lips don’t you??? I do!?? ๐Ÿ™‚

Needed some little toes peeking out.?? :)?? Tanner and I had a heck of a time keeping her on this chair.?? You can’t see him but he is on the left keeping her from rocking the chair.

And the back….

P.S.?? No I am not feeling better.?? VERY miserable today.?? Maybe this is that RSV peak day and I”ll do better tomorrow??? I have a headache in my temples, jaw, and back of head.?? Weird.?? Dayquil isn’t helping.?? Heidi told me to use a neti pot and I have to admit – I am scared.?? Turns out Aunt Beck has a brand new never been used one so Jim is getting for me tonight.?? Ick…but if it works to clear my sinuses I will be really really grateful about now.?? Even my teeth are hurting.

Thank you for all your comments yesterday.?? They helped.?? ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Your dress is sooooooooooooo cute on her! I love the back and that little Tori is truly a living doll with you playing dress up ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I love all of your pictures, but this photo shoot of Tori is my favorite! It is SOOO adorable! And it is very sweet that the dress was yours when you were little. Do you have any pictures of you in the dress when you were her age? That would be cool!

Teeth, jaws, and temples hurting – prob. have a sinus infection, and if it doesn’t get better soon, you may need antibiotics. The nasal rinse is a good idea to try first, though. But I agree with you – that doesn’t sound very fun. Although Logan and my other kids used to think it was really cool when she would squirt water up one side of her nose and it would come out the other – LOL. They would all stand around the sink and laugh as she did it. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I remember that style of dress. it looks so cute on Tori. I like the second to last picture – those eyes are so big and lovely!

  4. Love the adorable dress! You are right, it would look super special in white!!!

Sorry you are still sick!!! I agree the neti pot will probably help…it is strange at first, but a couple of times a day will help you alot. With my past sinus issues, I still use it once a day and it has helped tremendously. Crazy that I have been already using it for a year and a half…it has become normal fo rme. My husband has lovingly named it my snotty pot. Nice huh?! See I have boys around here too, LOL! Do your boys burp and toot at the table? I have been scolding Duncan for doing it on purpose. That is the burping part…the tooter in my house is all William. It is not intentional, BUT every time he sits at the table he must be sitting in just the right position and lots of air comes flying out in such a musical fashion (NOT!). ahhhhh, the joys of boys!!!! So, I realize that this is off topic, but I hoped to make you smile just a little! Love you Doni!!

  5. Oh my goodness! I wore the same dresses! At first I looked at it and thought oh that kind of looks like the dresses my mom made me when I was a baby and then when I saw the picture of the back I knew it was the exact same pattern. My mom always made matching diaper covers since the back was crisscrossed and showed off the tushie. I had a lot of these in different gingham colors, I absolutely love the frogs though.

  6. These my favorite pictures!!! (Ok I think I’m beginning to say that everytime you post pictures, haha). My mom sewed these dresses when I was little too. My mom sewed some shirts like this for my daughter about 4 yrs ago when she was 5yrs old, they were cute. I have a new sewing machine and plan on making some summer dresses for Olivia (4yrs old). I wish I could use this pattern but I can’t get away with showing her tushie off anymore but thanks for the encouragement and excitement for summer dresses. I LOVE this dress and especially on Tori. It looks adorable. The colors are wonderful with her skin tone and dark hair. ack love it love it love it!!

  7. I also love the dress!!! ADORABLE!!! To think that you use to be that small, what a treat for your own mama.
I love the color on Tori, I am taken away to see that the color yellow would make her shine so much. Not all dark headed children can pull off the brighter colors and look so darn stinkin’ cute!

  8. Heidi – THAT is the dress I am having made already! A pillowcase dress. Great minds think alike. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ll post a picture of the dress flat soon.

  9. So sweet so cute, I love the dress. If I was having a girl I would definetly make one ๐Ÿ™‚
p.s. the neti pot is awesome, tottaly awesome…… great to use when your pregnant too!
I was scared at first too but really its nothing ๐Ÿ™‚ Nothing like what you are expecting to feel ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. kristy – you could use the pattern and just add a ‘flap’ of coordinating (or matching) fabric (or ruffles) across the back – could even button onto either side to come on and off easy… OR she could just wear the same pattern but as a shirt over skirts or jeans or capris. wonder if kristy will read this. hmm…

  11. I am planning on having it made ankle length too so it will cover more in the back I think. I love the t-length – just want to try longer for fun.

  12. Must.have.pattern. I love that your mom kept that all these years! Soooo CUTE!! I need to put MY mother-in-law to work and ask her to make Beth some dresses like this. I’m also going to ask her to make a pillow case dress. I’m nowhere near the master seamstress I desire to be. Nowhere! My first sewing class is in March! ๐Ÿ™‚
