  1. I was raised to believe that all dancing was profoundly evil, to the degree that in the first grade I had to be excused from doing the Hokey Pokey because it featured dance type moves while teaching 6 year olds their right from left. Sounds kinda silly now, but it was not the worst thing for me. As a high school teacher in the public school system I was a chaperone at the school dances. Honestly, some of that is harmless…and some is down right evil. I had planned to spend the rest of my life not dancing but I am trying to re=learn something else that I was taught. Family culture, the times and the church painted a picture of a stern God…one that I know now is NOT reflected in the pages of scripture. We spent a lot of time NOT doing things to keep him benevolent towards us. I know those who taught this were well meaning and only trying to protect me from being consumed by the evils around me of which dancing was only a small part. The list would shock you. I am learning that I cannot and do not have to live a life that is fear based. What more could God do than what He has already done? In giving his son to pay the debt of my sin for me He promises not to hold my sins against me. That means his only intent and desire for me is to live loved in a relationship with him. He set me free to live loved and dance with my wife. The picture above was the firsst time ever…in public…that Deanna and I have danced. I can love her because HE LOVES ME. I hope you are learning to live loved, it is a far better way.
